Half of the companies intend to invest up to R$ 110 thousand in solutions

Dell SonicWALL Brasil, in partnership with BMS – Business Marketing Solution, conducted a survey with companies from eight countries in Latin and Central America (Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and El Salvador), from August 2012 to July 2013. A total of 1,134 companies were interviewed, 685 of which were Brazilian, including small, medium and large, to assess the concern and investment of these companies with the security of their data. Half of them declared that they intend to invest up to R$ 110 thousand in information security solutions, followed by 21.1% that project investments in the order of R$ 111 thousand to R$ 220 thousand, and 9%, from R$ 221 thousand to R$ 1.1 million.

Of the Brazilian companies interviewed, the vast majority (98.8%) claim to use a firewall, against 1.2% that do not. Among those that use it, Linux security systems lead the way (15.3%), followed by Dell SonicWALL (14.2%) and Cisco (9.4%). 9.2% of the organizations do not provide or do not know which solution they use and 41% opted for different brands. Among firewall users, 88.4% say they are satisfied with the solution, while 11.5% are not.

The survey also indicates that the majority of companies interviewed are more concerned with management solutions related to increasing productivity than with network security. From the Brazilian sample, 56.2% consider it very important that a firewall can detect high and low priority applications determined by the company, allowing access or blocking them. 36.8% consider it of medium importance and 6.9%, of little importance. For example, 60.3% stated that it is very important to prioritize critical applications such as ERP, VoIP, Video Conferencing, in detriment of web browsing and access to games and social networks, avoiding throttling of available bandwidth for business-related applications. On the other hand, 33.5% considered this item of medium importance and 6.1%, of little importance.

“It is essential to map the target audiences, to know what they think and have in relation to the security platform and, above all, to know their satisfaction and desires in relation to the protection of their network. With the research, we had a good idea of what happens in the IT and Security environments of companies from different segments of the region's economy, mainly in Brazil, and we will be able to design more assertive offers, with specific solutions", says Manoela Vieira, Marketing Manager of Dell Software Latin America Channels.

Regarding Mobility, the prioritization of productivity resources is justified. Of the Brazilian companies surveyed, 59.4% allow personal mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones to access their corporate Wi-Fi networks, while only 40.5% prohibit it. Of these companies, 70.5% do not have any system to block access to 3G/4G networks and only 29.4% do. Of this universe, 41.8% consider it very important that the firewall controls the availability of bandwidth for the use of these mobile devices. 36.5% consider it of medium importance and 21.5%, little. In relation to remote access, 62.6% of companies claim to use SSL VPN solutions approved for mobile devices, while 37.3% do not.
The survey gathered mostly IT professionals from companies with 1 to 250 employees (37.7%), followed by companies from 251 to 500 (21.1%), over 3 thousand (11.3%) and others. Regarding revenue, among the companies that reported, 7,05% has revenue of up to 22 million reais, with up to five branches.
