Trend Micro, a global leader in cybersecurity, announced the results of a global survey that reveals that distance with the security team creates unnecessary risks in companies around the world, especially DevOps. The lack of security involvement in projects in the area creates a cyber risk for 72% IT leaders.

"It's no secret that developers and security teams have a history of conflict," said Steve Quane, executive vice president of network defense and hybrid cloud security at Trend Micro. “We want to help companies break down these barriers by providing technology and solutions that work for developers, IT and security teams. To do this best, we need to understand how the DevOps community and IT security teams collaborate – so we ask directly. your goals will help us to continue providing solutions that help work and ensure deliveries are safe."

DevOps is a higher priority today than it was last year for 79% of companies, however, 34% of security teams are not always consulted during projects. This is despite the fact that 54% of respondents said they encountered security risks in project implementation.

In an attempt to better understand the DevOps culture, Trend Micro hired independent researcher Vanson Bourne to interview 1,310 IT decision makers at companies of all sizes around the world about their organizational culture.

This challenge is also highlighted in ESG's recently published research, which shows that only 20% of security purchases for DevOps projects are made by IT security teams. The study found that to address this issue, 68% of organizations have or plan to have a centralized team to take care of DevOps security.

Trend Micro research also shows that 80% IT security leaders want to be involved in planning DevOps initiatives, but their teams are often not well equipped for this task, either due to a lack of adequate tools or a lack of professionals.
