Increasing the competitiveness of the Brazilian automotive industry against multinationals is only possible with investment in technological innovations and, for this, it is important that companies have access to equipment, extremely qualified labor and cutting-edge research centers. Facilitating and bringing companies closer to developers of new technologies is the strategic objective of signing the alliance between EMBRAPII (Brazilian Company for Industrial Research and Innovation) and Sindipeças (National Union of the Components Industry for Motor Vehicles), at a meeting held in São Paulo, at the headquarters of the business entity.

Currently, EMBRAPII has 42 research centers spread across the country with technological skills of fundamental importance in the development of solutions for the production chain of the automotive sector, such as: batteries, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), steel, new materials, manufacturing 4.0, between others. “The alliance with Sindipeças is an important step for EMBRAPII to understand the sector's demands for innovation and contribute to meeting them. Embrapii units can greatly help companies in the sector in the technological challenges that are emerging. In addition, the institution's financing model contributes to reducing the risks of projects with non-reimbursable resources”, highlights José Luis Gordon, director of Planning and Management at EMBRAPII.

Brazil is the 9th producer of auto parts and vehicles in the world. Internally, the automotive sector accounts for 22% of the industrial GDP and generates around 1.3 billion direct and indirect jobs in the country. Among the projects under development at the EMBRAPII Units for the sector, there are: the creation of a new material for the support component of the ABS system block (Anti Block System), a sensor for measuring the percentage of fuel in vehicles, an intelligent system for prevent failures in the steel sheets used to make car doors and even an application that promises to show fault diagnoses, parts life, general travel status and service schedules.

The alliance with Sindipeças adds to a series of actions by EMBRAPII with the aim of strengthening ties with specific industrial sectors. The institution also maintains an agreement with ABIMO (Brazilian Association of the Medical and Dental Articles and Equipment Industry) and ABTCP (Brazilian Pulp and Paper Technical Association).
