The view of top executives from IBM, Intel, Microsoft and Totvs

The ABES Software Conference, held on 08/20, provided a rare experience: seeing on the same stage and discovering what they think about digital transformation the main executives in Brazil of four of the largest information technology companies operating in the country: Tonny Martins , IBM; Laércio Cosentino, Totvs; Paula Bellizia, Microsoft, and Maurício Ruiz, Intel, moderated by Marcelo Pagotti, former SETIC secretary at the Ministry of Planning.

“We see that this pervasive effect on various industries is obviously centered on an unprecedented evolution of information technology, telecommunications, infrastructure platforms, but above all a new consumer and job market that is already born digital”, said Tonny Martins, who cited an IBM study of more than 13,000 executives from various industries, from which he extracted three insights that portray business transformation: the change in value chains, the collapse of boundaries between companies and the emergence of ecosystems, citing as an example the health care ecosystem at IBM: “In addition to doctors, part of our employees are focused on health, which has made a difference in our positioning in this sector”. Martins also pointed out three “levers” that demonstrate how companies demonstrate innovation and performance: “provide a unique consumer experience, prepare for digital invaders and be the first, the best or nothing”, he listed.

Laércio Consentino, from Totvs, highlighted that one of the great challenges for Brazilian competitiveness in relation to digital transformation is the low qualification of professionals. “Today, there are 13 million unemployed, but in the IT sector we have 500,000 vacancies that we cannot fill. We have to close this gap. How do we get the greatest number of people and companies to really have access to all this so that they actually make a difference?”, he asked, noting that digital transformation is a journey and pointed out three main pillars: culture and environment, processes and offer and portfolio.

As a Microsoft representative, Paula Bellizia told customer cases to demonstrate in practice the power of digital transformation in companies, including that of Atento, a call center company that won the challenge of auditing 10 million calls per month, through the use of of artificial intelligence. "This is artificial intelligence in practice." According to her, Microsoft's performance is based on three pillars: 1) leading innovations to expand human capacity; 2) build powerful platforms for faster, more accessible innovation; and 3) develop a trustworthy approach (protecting your data). “The true power of technology is not defined by what it can do, but what we choose to do with it, how to contribute to solving humanity's biggest problems. Brazil is in a great hurry for us to use all this and reposition the country from a competitive point of view. One of our company's missions is to democratize artificial intelligence.”

“Companies that don't look at IT as an investment will be left behind. This is one of the big changes in this transformation”, highlighted Maurício Ruiz, highlighting the convergence between various technologies to bring the disruption of business models in a much easier way. “We live in a world of change. Normal is no longer the rule. The fundamental point of digital transformation, without a doubt, is the data. So, follow the data and you will find business for you”, he concluded.
