Developed by ABES, the website points out the benefits generated for Brazilian society from the use of data. The initiative has the partnership of several business associations and seeks to exploit the full potential of innovations guided by the increasing use of data

In order to present the advantages that the use and sharing of data provide for Brazilian society, ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies), through its Regulatory Committee, developed the site Brazil, Digital Country. The proposal of the entity and the partners that support the initiative is that the site be a meeting point for civil society to engage in the discussion and have access to qualified information on the subject, in a light, modern and dynamic format.

Shortly after the case Edward Snowden, a former employee of the US National Security Agency (NSA), began a wide-ranging debate about the importance of developing security and data protection mechanisms. In Brazil, the Marco Civil da Internet was created, which outlined the parameters for using the network in the country and became an international reference. Today, Brazil is advancing in the discussion to regulate points relevant to the privacy of citizens and to increase innovation, such as the use of personal data and net neutrality.

“Currently, the use of data is so comprehensive and important to society that innovations in this field have already surpassed the space of technology companies. Cities, people, cars, refrigerators and markets are connected. Legislation on the subject is welcome, but it is important that it does not affect the innovation and evolution of new business models such as cognitive ones, cloud computing and the internet of things. Without the engagement of civil society in this type of debate, it is possible that limitations to the benefits provided by the data may arise, which may affect the ability of our population and governments to have fundamental information for the provision of services of general interest, such as of electronic commerce, weather forecasting, diagnostics, health monitoring, tax evasion, traffic and conscious use of natural resources, among many others”, says Fábio Rua, coordinator of the ABES Regulatory Committee.

"The website Brazil, Digital Country will contribute to this debate with short texts, cases, interactivity, as well as diverse and updated information on the importance of using data for the population and for the most varied sectors of the economy. The importance of the internet is indisputable in society, but today we are living in the phase of information collaboration, which brings us a wealth of knowledge for different sectors of the economy, which allows the evolution of research and the creation of innovative solutions. Rigid rules can put Brazil in the opposite direction of digital evolution”, says Francisco Camargo, president of ABES.

The initiative already has several partners, such as ABIIS (Brazilian Alliance of the Innovative Health Industry), Assespro (Association of Information Technology Companies), Brasscom (Brazilian Association of Information and Communication Technology Companies), BSA - The Software Aliance, FENAINFO (National Federation of Computer Companies), Brazilian Institute of Digital Law it's the IT – Information Technology Industry Council, who will contribute with their experience on the topic, mobilization capacity and participation in debates.
