The new president of BNDES, Joaquim Levy, said this Tuesday (8), during a ceremony for the transfer of office, at the Bank's headquarters, in Rio, that the country is approaching a moment of economic recovery and the BNDES will be prepared and will have financial instruments to respond to the challenges.

“We are on the cusp of a new investment cycle in an economy that will be more open, more vibrant, with more space for the private sector and capital markets. The BNDES' role is to contribute to this environment by developing new tools, new ways of working, close and in partnership with the market. We continue to have enormous potential and values to share with society,” he said.

According to the new president of the BNDES, in order to contribute to the agenda of building a “strong, clean, fair and competitive Brazil”, the Bank needs to learn to deal with the scenario of convergence in interest rates and with less dependence on funding from the Treasury. Nacional: “We will continue to serve the country, having profitability to maintain our activities in a solid way, as the Central Bank wants and requires of us”.

Levy also pointed out some drivers and challenges of his management: “To be closer and closer to our customers; to strengthen medium-sized companies so that they have the capacity to grow, generate employment and incorporate new technologies; play a key role in the privatization and structuring of projects financed or not in partnership with the private sector; investing in information technology that allows the delivery of services in a cheaper, more efficient and faster way”.

Regarding society's demand for transparency, he said that "it is already a virtue that is deeply rooted in the institution and will develop even more". According to him, the Bank will work with an increasing focus on this agenda, facilitating the presentation of available data to the population.

For Brazil's great challenge in infrastructure, Levy said that the establishment of a solid and efficient flow of projects is fundamental. "Our ability to work with PPIs, ministries and regulatory agencies to develop this flow is a key factor in increasing the competitiveness and productivity of Brazil's economy in the coming years and creating new jobs."
