World leader in innovations, technologies and products with RFID (radio frequency identification) technology, Alien Technology has just signed a partnership with Taggen Soluções IoT, which was appointed to distribute its equipment in Brazil, it will be the first certified representative of the North American company in the country. In this initial stage, readers, antennas and accessories for radio frequency identification (RFID) will be sold on the national market, all approved and certified by Anatel.

“The products developed by Alien® are considered the most advanced in the world for implementing solutions with RFID technology, due to their capacity, reading speed, robustness and embedded intelligence. It is possible to associate the readings with a variety of data processing solutions, which add functionality, speed and intelligence to the work of identifying and tracking objects”, explains Werter Padilha, CEO of Taggen.

As a certified distributor, Taggen will stock locally and provide technical support and training to integrators, in addition to providing RFID midleware, which reduces development time for solutions.

The Director of Business Development – Latin America at Alien, José Carlos B. Oliveira, explains that Alien played an important role in the development of the RFID protocol and distinguishes itself by manufacturing its own chips and readers. “At the end of 2015, we decided to expand the company's presence in the Latin American market and started the studies. We chose Taggen because it has consolidated experience with technology and is renowned in the segment, two fundamental differentials to make a technical sale with foundation”, he highlighted.

By including this commercial partnership in its portfolio, Taggen aims to strengthen its position as a supplier of tools and equipment for solution integrators, offering technological knowledge, consulting and business intelligence to its customers operating in different sectors, such as agribusiness, retail, logistics. , industry, consumer goods, transport, defense, among others.

Alien Technology equipment enables customers to improve productivity, process control, security and tracking of items and assets.

“With Alien's products, it will be possible to create industrial, logistics and retail solutions, optimizing processes in any of these sectors. Alien readers allow part of the client software to be embedded in the reader, bringing speed and minimizing the need for server infrastructure”, explains Mario Prado, CTO of Taggen.

Additionally, Taggen will provide consultancy and all technical support to solution integrator companies that wish to become resellers and work with this equipment. Training will be provided by a specialized and previously certified technical team at Alien's own RFID center of excellence in the United States.

RFID and IoT in Brazil and worldwide

According to Prado, the adoption of RFID technology in Brazil is still lagging in comparison with other countries. “The offer of Alien Technology equipment makes Brazil count on technological resources of the highest quality and reliability for the identification and tracking of objects”, he explains.

According to the Alien executive, the strongest segments in the use of RFID in the world are fashion retail, logistics, industrial controls and asset controls. The penetration of technology in Industry 4.0 has grown, with the IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) for identifying things relevant to industrial processes. The technology allows the implementation of the first step towards a reliable connection of equipment to networks. Studies indicate that the global RFID market is expected to sell 6 billion tags in 2017, and this number has grown, on average, by about 40% per year.

As for Brazil, projections from the consultancy Frost & Sullivan, point out that the national IoT market should reach revenues of US$ 3.29 billion by 2021, an estimate that refers to hardware (connectivity module and other components), software and services directly. linked to IoT solutions.

The potential is promising, as the Federal Government released an in-depth study on this ecosystem and launched the National IoT Plan (2017-2022), whose prioritized verticals have already been defined: health, rural, smart cities and manufacturing. The government has included RFID in this plan, which should open up a number of opportunities for companies looking to invest in this technology.
