Telit holds Internet of Things championship to attract students

Telit Wireless Solutions, an Italian multinational that operates in the telecommunications area and considered one of the 25 largest companies in the area by Connected World magazine, promotes a competition for university students and technical courses, the Telit Cup Brasil, with the objective of promoting innovations and businesses related to the Internet of Things (IoT) and attract future professionals and innovators to work in this area.

Groups of up to three students and an advisor professor will develop projects equipped with machine-to-machine (M2M) communication technology that will improve the quality of life in cities. A panel of judges composed of industry executives will be responsible for evaluating the best works and advising students on both the technical side and business advice. First prize will be a trip to Las Vegas to visit CTIA, one of the largest technology fairs in the world.

The Internet of Things is considered one of the main trends for the future, and Telit wants to make engineering and technology students create and develop their ideas for connected machines that improve the quality of urban life. “We want students to be interested in IoT and develop solutions that improve everyone's lives,” says Ricardo Buranello, vice president and director of Telit América Latina.

According to Buranello, Telit's main objective is for these solutions to become real-world businesses that can potentially be brought to market and improve the quality of life in our cities. “The intellectual property of all solutions developed during the competition will belong exclusively to the students and professors responsible for their creation. We want to help form the next Steve Jobs, and preferably that he is Brazilian”.

First prize will be a trip to Las Vegas for all members of the winning group, including airfare and accommodations. Members of the second place group will receive tablets and the third place group will have development kits to continue creating solutions for the Internet of Things. In addition to the winning groups, the winning institutions will receive development kits.

Interested groups must register by December 20, 2014. Registration forms and regulations can be obtained at https://www.facebook.com/telitcupbrasil. For more information and submission of completed forms, contact telitcup@telit.com.
