Project was approved with the help of the Inovapar Soluções system, developed by Touch Health

Liquid-based cytology has a number of advantages over conventional cytology as it provides a more reliable representation of the material collected by the physician and significantly reduces pre-analytical interference. Currently, in the US, only samples, such as Pap smears, are used in a liquid medium. In Brazil, Kolplast, a company focused on products for women's health, developed a kit for cytology in liquid medium and closed a partnership with the Genoa/LPCM laboratory, which has, nationally and internationally, recognized expertise and technical qualification in this area, to make the evaluation and validation of the material.

The project, which was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of USP last April, included a survey carried out by Genoa/LPCM with 1,000 volunteers, in which tests were carried out with an international kit, considered the “gold standard”, and with the Kolplast kit for comparison of results.

Genoa/LPCM determined a series of parameters to evaluate the correct adequacy of the cytological technology developed by Kolplast in relation to the current standard in the market and the statistical calculation was carried out in the Motion LIS system, a solution distributed by Inovapar and developed by Touch Health that allowed the full control of the operation by Genoa/LPCM.

This was possible due to the proximity between the Motion LIS team and the process established by Genoa/LPCM. “The Motion LIS development team managed to adapt the presentation of the results in order to make the process uncomplicated and easily accessible, which is not always possible in the field of Pathology, with its many variables”, said Dr. Kátia RM Leite, Scientific Director and President of the Scientific Technical Council of Genoa/LPCM and Senior Pathologist at the Pathology Laboratory of Hospital Sírio Libanês. The kit's liquid medium also allowed processing of molecular biology tests, so that Genoa/LPCM can perform them through the successful extraction of DNA from the samples.

As part of the same project, Kolplast requested an efficiency study of the cervical brush used in the collections, with the intention of presenting it in the product validation process with the FDA (Food and Drug Administration/USA). “What looked like an 'insane job' was, in a very short time, solved and made simple by the Motion LIS team, allowing the analysis and reporting of results obtained in 500 patients", said Dr. Luiz Heraldo Câmara Lopes, President of Genoa/LPCM. luminous” by Dr. LH Câmara Lopes, has already been sent to the American agency for certification.
