Marathon is promoted by São Paulo City Hall in partnership with MundoGEO

The City of São Paulo, through the Municipal Department of Urban Development (SMDU), in partnership with MundoGEO – a portal specialized in geolocation and drones -, wants to mobilize hackers, developers, public managers, students or all creative people to develop solutions technologies from GeoSampa data. The action also has the support of the Municipal Department of Innovation and Technology (SMIT). Innovation should facilitate and improve the lives of the citizens of São Paulo.

It's about the contest GeoSampa Hackathon 2019, which will award the three best projects of the development marathon. Websites, mobile applications, interactive graphics and new software can be produced and, in the end, the developed application will be delivered for free use by the population. The winners will be announced at the MundoGEO Connect2019 fair that will take place from June 25th to 27th at the Frei Caneca Convention Center.

How to participate in the challenge

During the project preparation period, which has already started and runs until May 13, participants will receive mentorships via web conferences, on dates that are being announced on the event's portal.

Once completed, the projects must be sent in PDF format by May 13 to the judging committee, composed of professionals with recognized expertise in geospatial data, urban management and technology. The file must contain, at least, a description of the materials and methods used, as well as the purpose of the proposed solution, which will be evaluated in five aspects: public interest, usability, creativity, sustainability and technical quality.

In the first criterion, the contribution of the solution developed to improve the provision of public service will be analyzed; in usability, the ease and even the possibility of the population to contribute to the service; in creativity, if the project presents an innovative solution; in sustainability, the potential for continuity of the project, and finally in technical quality, the level of knowledge and technical basis used to develop the solution.

The Finalists

On May 29, the three finalist projects will be announced. The winners will then present their proposals to the public and the committee during the Hacktatona GeoSampa 2019 event, to be held on June 27, during the MundoGEO Connect 2019 fair, at the Frei Caneca Convention Center. On this day, the City of São Paulo, in partnership with MundoGEO, will provide free entry to all visitors to the fair to follow the GeoSampa2019 Hackathon.

The three best projects will be awarded with specialization courses, startup mentoring, smartphones, tablets or computers, among other awards that will be announced during the preparation of the projects.
