Indra study argues that technology should help reduce costs, bring safer driving and minimize the impact on the environment around the world

Indra, a global consulting and technology company, recently developed the ITT Report, a study dedicated to analyzing the main trends in the transport sector at a global level. According to the conclusions pointed out, digital technologies should mark the future of mobility, bringing significant benefits to users and companies. In this sense, the Mobility model “as a service” (or MaaS) should acquire fundamental importance in the coming years.

Popularized and first developed by the software industry, the “as a service” model basically consists of selling usage rights (instead of products) on any device associated with a user account, for a specific monthly fee. In practice, it goes from a one-off purchase to a periodic expense with software.

“What is happening in the mobility sector is something similar. From the operator's perspective, projects are increasingly interested in projects in which the necessary infrastructure for its exploitation is offered by the technological provider as an integrated service, for which it would charge a monthly fee or fixed percentage of sales - instead of building the infrastructure and taking over later. the costs of learning to use it”, highlights the company.

The new mentality should mainly affect traffic managers and road concessionaires, where “as a service” (or MaaS) Mobility would include solutions for access to certain routes or modular prices and real-time payments according to road conditions. , date and time, etc. “Moreover, the connected or autonomous car, which advances with IoT and the new secure mobile communications, should transform the user experience in their road trips”, states the study.

With this, one of the trends pointed out by the consultancy is that, in the future, users will be able to configure their profiles, choose their means of transport, access each one of them and pay at the end of the month according to the use that each one has made, in addition to to have access to prizes for their most sustainable choices.

And what about logistics in the midst of digital transformation?

More than impacting the user experience, this new scenario should also bring positive consequences for companies. According to Indra, freight transport should suffer significant effects in the midst of digital transformation and should solve three main challenges faced by the sector today:

1. Optimize infrastructure maintenance costs
2. Traceability of goods
3. Ensure final product delivery

According to the study, the last two factors must be resolved with integrated goods management platforms with full traceability, based on blockchain and smart contracts, connected with real-time traffic data and that facilitate distribution with less impact on the environment. environment.

At the same time, the maintenance of transport infrastructures will be increasingly predictable, starting from the design of the infrastructure itself in BIM (Building Information Model) to the collection of relevant data through big data to establish indicators and standards that, supported by artificial intelligence , facilitate decision making. Overhaul by unmanned vehicles (UAVs) and the use of augmented reality for operator training and remote assistance on delicate repairs are also expected to transform the dynamics of these services.

About the study (ITT)

The Transport Sector Trends study is the result of an in-depth analysis carried out by Indra to configure its innovative offer for the sector, called Indra Mova Solutions, and the reflection of the company's experience in some of the most relevant innovation projects and initiatives in the sector at national and international level. It also includes interviews with some of the most relevant customers and players in the industry.

Indra Mova Solutions combines the new digital capabilities of integration, specialization and innovation that the market demands, with reliability, business knowledge, Indra's own transport technology and the unique experience of its team of professionals. With a complete portfolio of end-to-end solutions, Mova Solutions covers the entire life cycle of transport projects and makes it easy for Indra to lead the creation of the mobility of the future, driven by the new digital environment and focused on making it easier, more comfortable and secure people's lives.

Indra already leads some of the main European innovation initiatives that advance towards the digitization of transport and the use of new intelligent solutions based on IoT, artificial intelligence, big data or cloud computing.
