Document brings together the guidelines and goals for the digitization of the Brazilian economy in the coming years

The Minister of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, Gilberto Kassab, launched this Tuesday (1st) the public consultation of the Brazilian Strategy for Digital Transformation, which brings together the guidelines and goals for the digitization of the Brazilian economy in the coming years. The proposal was formulated by an Interministerial Working Group, coordinated by the MCTIC, and will be under public consultation until September 20th. The final version will be sent as a draft decree to the Presidency of the Republic.

The Strategy represents an "umbrella" for several Federal Government initiatives around the digitization of the economy and society. The objective is to create an enabling environment for transformative impacts on agriculture, commerce, finance, industry and transport and logistics services, by advancing the digitization of production processes and empowering the country for the so-called 4th Industrial Revolution.

The proposal is divided into thematic axes: the enablers of digital transformation, and those of the digital transformation itself. There are five enabling axes of digital transformation: network infrastructure and internet access; research, development and innovation; trust in the digital environment; education and professional training; and the international dimension. The axes of digital transformation are: a data-driven economy; a world of connected devices; new business models; and digital transformation of citizenship and government.

The base text highlights the tendency of digital technologies to occupy more and more space in everyday life. "They are at home, at work, at schools, in the media and in social relationships. So that Brazil can take full advantage of the digital revolution, reaping all the benefits that the information and knowledge society has to offer, the national economy must transform itself, with dynamism, competitiveness and inclusion, absorbing digitalization in its processes, values and knowledge".

According to the document, the economy of the future will be digital and should reach any Brazilian. "It is not possible to conceive of a modern and dynamic economy that does not provide equal opportunities in all regions of the country".

Depending on economic dynamism and productive forces, some countries seek to be leaders in specific and promising sectors, such as robotics, artificial intelligence, high-precision manufacturing or digital financial innovations, while others manage their regulatory frameworks in a way that the economy can extract all the potential of digital technologies. The search for competitiveness in digital businesses, the digitization of public services and policies to create qualified jobs and form a population with better and more advanced education are among the priorities of the strategy.

The GTI coordinated by MCTIC identified national characteristics to overcome challenges and bottlenecks and advance in the digitization of the economy. "Although Brazil has strong and significant competitive advantages in certain areas, such as agribusiness, cultural diversity, a large and diversified economy, with an attractive consumer market, when compared globally, the country still has important challenges to face", evaluates the base text. To take advantage of the potential and overcome the obstacles towards digitalization, diagnoses and visions of the future were drawn up.
