The Minister of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, Gilberto Kassab, established the Digital Governance Committee (CGD) and the Information and Communications Security Committee (CSIC) within the scope of the ministry. The ordinances with the powers and attributions of the committees were published on February 1st in the Federal Official Gazette.

The two groups will have representatives from all MCTIC secretariats (Executive Secretariat, Radio Broadcasting Secretariat; Secretariat for Research and Development Policies and Programs; Secretariat for Technological Development and Innovation; Secretariat for Telecommunications and Secretariat for Information Technology Policy), in addition to the Legal Consultancy and the Information Technology Board.

The Digital Governance Committee will, among other things, monitor and evaluate the MCTIC's ICT management; propose the alignment between the ICT actions, the MCTIC business strategies and define priorities in the formulation and execution of plans, projects and investments in ICT for the ministry. The presidency of the CGD will be exercised by a representative of the Executive Secretariat.

The Information and Communications Security Committee (CSIC) will be coordinated by an Information and Communications Security Manager and will be responsible for advising on the implementation of information and communications security actions; propose the Information and Communications Security Policy for the MCTIC and submit it to the Digital Governance Committee for consideration; set up working groups to deal with issues and propose specific solutions and standards relating to information and communications security.

The general coordinator of Information Technology Governance at MCTIC, Gilson Botta, emphasizes that the Digital Governance Committee will have the role of guiding investments in technology effectively and efficiently, in addition to directing the use of technology to leverage new opportunities. The CSIC will establish the necessary precautions and measures to protect the confidential information held by the MCTIC.

According to him, the establishment of the two committees follows determinations from the Ministry of Planning and the Institutional Security Office of the Presidency of the Republic. CGD and CSIC will have a period of 180 days, counting from the date of publication of the ordinance, to prepare their internal regulations. The participation of representatives of the MCTIC secretariats in the committees and working groups is considered a service of a relevant nature and will not be remunerated.
