Gartner, the largest technology research firm, reported that Oracle overtook IBM in sales in 2013 to become the world's second-largest software company, behind Microsoft, which remains at the top of the list.
 
According to the survey, the software market grew by 4.8% last year, totaling US$ 407.3 billion, against US$ 388 billion recorded in 2012. Microsoft achieved sales of US$ 65.7 billion, Oracle closed the year with US$ 29.6 billion in sales and IBM posted US$ 29.1 billion.
