For 85% of professionals, remote meetings already offer an experience as positive as face-to-face meetings.

A study commissioned by Microsoft from Ibope Conecta reveals that for 85% of Brazilian professionals, the experience of holding a meeting remotely leaves nothing to be desired in relation to face-to-face meetings. According to the survey, carried out with Internet users, professionals between 25 and 34 years old are the ones who most hold meetings at a distance (52%). In the overall analysis, 47% of respondents say they attend work meetings remotely.

In order to analyze the perception of Brazilians in relation to the transformation of the work environment through the use of new technologies, the study heard during the months of May and June 1,500 professionals from different hierarchical levels, markets and professions. Men and women, from 18 to 55 years old, from the ABC classes, who work in the public and private sector, in all regions of the country, were interviewed.

According to Microsoft research, flexible working hours and the possibility of working from home and/or working from environments other than the office are at the top of the list of elements that most characterize a modern work environment for Brazilian professionals. The first item is mentioned by 68% of respondents, while the second appears in 62% of responses.

The study also indicates that 41% of professionals believe that their companies could improve the use of technology to bring more flexibility to the work routine and allow the practice of home office. Despite seeing room for improvement in these aspects, practically half of the people interviewed say they work remotely at least once a week, with men (50%) being more adept at the practice than women (44%).

“A modern work environment is one that actually allows each employee to perform at their best, being more productive and interacting more quickly and efficiently with their team and with other teams in the company. This is what we have in mind when developing our solutions, and technology today is already capable of removing a number of barriers, allowing not only each professional to work regardless of where they are, but also sharing information in real time with their team or as part of of a multifunctional team in projects with complete safety”, says Loredane Feltrin, productivity director at Microsoft Brazil.

Faced with this new reality made possible by the use of technology, the study indicates that 90% of the professionals interviewed consider that a modern work environment would influence their decision when analyzing a job proposal.

Easier communication with colleagues and managers is the benefit most cited by respondents regarding the impact of technology on their professional routine (70%). The access and sharing of important information, which enable decision-making in a more assertive way, is mentioned by 62% of people. For 67% of the professionals interviewed by IBOPE Conecta, the way to obtain information to do their job well is getting easier thanks to the use of technological resources.

In day-to-day work, the meeting room is still the place where teamwork takes place, especially among respondents aged 25 to 34 (65%). The research shows, however, that new spaces are beginning to be used by professionals for these interactions: 16% say that the place where teamwork and collaboration happens most is in the kitchen/pantry of companies. Directors are the ones who most believe that collaboration takes place in transit (in the car, on the way to the airport, for example), with this location having been cited by 18% of the professionals who hold the position.

Artificial intelligence in the office

The research also verified how professionals interact with Artificial Intelligence (AI) resources in their daily work. According to the study, 25% say they use AI when working, while approximately 40% of professionals say they are not sure if they use it. The age group that most claims to adopt the technology is professionals between 25 and 34 years old (30%), as well as Information Technology professionals (45%), followed by respondents who work in the financial area (39%). The survey shows that the use of AI appears more latent for high-level positions, such as CEOs, VPs and directors.

Automatic text/audio translation into other languages, audio-to-text transcription, virtual assistants, tools to prioritize your most important emails and others that help, for example, design a presentation from initial ideas These are some use cases of Artificial Intelligence that, nowadays, are already available to many professionals who use a computer to perform their activities, but many times they are not completely clear about the connection between these resources and AI.

Public versus Private

Overall, research shows that public sector professionals have been less impacted by the use of technology to create a more modern work environment. Among the public service professionals interviewed, 68% said they never work from home. Only 13% say they use some Artificial Intelligence feature in their daily work. By contrast, 60% of public sector respondents believe technology is making information easier to access for professional purposes.

Among public sector professionals, 62% of professionals see access to and sharing of information as the most important benefit brought by the use of technology in the professional environment. With regard to what technology can still contribute to improving, flexibility in the work routine and the possibility of working from home appear in 46% of the responses of respondents from the public service.

In the public sector, 41% of respondents say they have a modern work environment in their companies, while in the overall survey analysis this percentage is 62%.

“Transforming the work environment is a journey. We are excited to see the spaces that still exist for evolution and how much it is possible to impact innovation in companies by making information flow more fluidly between all levels”, says Loredane. Check out the full survey infographic.
