Microsoft announced a series of actions to launch Windows 10 on July 29: celebrations with fans, joint efforts with thousands of retailers, a new global advertising campaign and a new year-long initiative to celebrate people and organizations that are making a difference around the world.

Available for the first time as a free upgrade, Windows 10 brings a fast and familiar browsing experience that is safer and automatically updated. “Windows 10 is designed to enable people to do amazing things. We are excited to celebrate the launch of Windows 10 with our fans,” said Yususf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President, Windows and Devices Division. “We will mark the launch of Windows 10 by celebrating the people and organizations that make the world better every day – helping them do more in their communities.”

Celebrations for fans

Windows fans helped build Windows 10, with 5 million Windows Insiders providing valuable feedback. Members of this community will be the first to receive Windows 10 and are invited to join fan celebrations in 13 cities around the world: Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, New Delhi, Dubai, Nairobi, Berlin, Johannesburg, Madrid , London, São Paulo and New York. The celebrations will allow hands-on experiences, as well as demos, entertainment and networking opportunities with the Windows team.

Microsoft Stores will celebrate the launch at more than 110 locations across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. In some of them, there will be demonstrations of use with prizes and gifts. Major retailers such as Best Buy, Bic Camera, Croma, Currys/PC World, Elkjøp, Jarrir, Incredible Connection, Media Market, Staples, Wal-Mart, Yamada, Yodobashi and many others around the world will adopt programs to help consumers to upgrade easily. Tech Bench services will provide support for upgrades made to Windows 10, as well as data migration services to help people transfer data from their old PC to their new one, and experimentation stations where people can get to know Windows 10.

A new global advertising campaign for Windows 10 will celebrate the new generation of Windows and invite the public to join a new era. The TV and digital pieces will highlight how Windows 10 provides a more humane way of doing things – bringing features like Windows Hello and Microsoft Edge to life.

Upgrade Your World

Upgrade Your World is a new year-long initiative to celebrate those who inspire and empower people, led by Microsoft's vision to help people do more through technology and in celebration of the release of Windows 10.

During the year, Microsoft will partner with 10 global organizations and 100 local nonprofits to help them improve the world. In support of its missions and to promote awareness of its causes, the company will make a total investment of $10 million in cash.

Participating global organizations are: CARE, Code.org, Keep a Child Alive, Malala Fund, Pencils of Promise, Save the Children, Special Olympics, The Global Poverty Project and The Nature Conservancy. Microsoft will work with these organizations on projects and initiatives to improve the world through a combination of technology, financial investments, and the development of shared campaigns to generate awareness.

Starting July 29, Microsoft and its partners will invite people to vote for a 10th global organization to participate in Upgrade Your World. People will also be encouraged to participate by sharing information that shows how they are doing things big and small to make an impact in their communities, using the hashtag #UpgradeYourWorld.

In addition to these global entities, starting in September, Microsoft will encourage partners and fans to select 10 organizations in 10 countries – Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States. They will receive investments in cash and technology to help them improve the world in their communities.

Around the world, Microsoft employees will participate in the Upgrade Your World initiative and will have a day off to volunteer and improve their community. Thousands of them will do this work on July 29th, in celebration of the release of Windows 10. More information on how to participate in #UpgradeYourWorld can be found at: http://windows.com/upgradeyourworld.
