Microsoft announced the creation of an AI Industry Board (Industry Committee for Artificial Intelligence) in conjunction with other companies and organizations. The group's first meeting was attended by executives from companies such as Bradesco, Vivo, Grupo Fleury, Sulamérica and Car10, in addition to the extraordinary participation of Miriam Wimmer, from the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC). Representatives of the Competitive Brazil Movement (MBC), the Institute for Research in Technology and Innovation (IPTI) and the Social Technology Institute (ITS) were also present at the meeting held online. Lisa Tanzi, corporate vice president of Microsoft Corporation at Microsoft, was invited to speak.

The AI Industry Board aims to broaden the discussion on the responsible use of AI, sharing good practices adopted by companies and organizations from various segments, in order to promote the development of innovation based on this technology in Brazil. Contributing to the country's competitiveness through AI and its impact on digital transformation is also the focus of the committee. The council is also responsible for discussing the knowledge most demanded by the industry, in order to establish greater competitiveness and qualified labor, according to the needs of the sector. This is necessary to address growth in new job creation and the development of better-trained professionals for the labor market of the future.

As a result of these debates, participating companies can identify synergies between their projects and, in a second moment, align opportunities to improve the increase of initiatives already carried out individually; to partner with academia and also seek support from the public and private sectors for actions they deem relevant to expanding the adoption of AI across the country and that should result in sustainable local development.

The impact of AI on the labor market

In Brazil, the study "The impact of AI on the labor market", commissioned by Microsoft to the American consulting firm DuckerFrontier, analyzed what AI could bring to the country, by 2030, in the economy and society in scenarios of minimum and maximum benefit in adopting the technology.

According to the survey, the corporate services sector will benefit most from increased AI incorporation, with 26 million new jobs created. There will be 103% more jobs through 2030 compared to World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates for the same period, as the effects of automation and new job creation would increase by 258% in the sector's corporate services. Other sectors that would have important gains in the creation of new jobs would be manufacturing (+ 73% in the creation of new jobs), the retail, wholesale, hotel and food sectors (+ 44%) and construction (+ 42%).

According to Jean-Philippe Courtois, executive vice president and president of global sales, marketing and operations at Microsoft, “AI is the defining technology of our time and is key to our nationwide digital transformation efforts. Building strong coalitions through industry alliances such as the AI Industry Board is just one way to ensure responsible innovation that supports the transformation of key industries and benefits the national economy,” he explains.

About the Committee, the president of Microsoft Brazil, Tânia Cosentino, explains that Brazil is advancing in the adoption of technology and this is a favorable moment for the creation of an AI Industry Board. “Bringing together the leaders of these companies and organizations to advance the development and use of AI-based technologies is one way to further contribute to this transformation. In addition, it is a constructive way to ensure that AI is used in the best possible way, observing and discussing its impacts in different sectors, including the training of professionals for the new reality of work”, he says.
