The event brought together more than 3 thousand people in the capital of São Paulo to discuss and exchange experiences about AI and its applications for business and society

Microsoft promoted, last Thursday (21), at the Transamérica Expo Center, in São Paulo, the Brazilian edition of the Microsoft AI Tour – held in several countries around the world, in which Brazil was the only one in Latin America to participate. host the conference. The event brought together company leaders, customers, the press and experts to exchange experiences about artificial intelligence (AI) and learn about its innovative impact on different sectors of the economy, from the public to the private sector. The meeting in the capital of São Paulo also presented the paths for the responsible use of AI and highlighted Brazil's role in this journey and how the company works to implement this technology locally.

The event was opened by the president of Microsoft Brazil, Tania Cosentino, who reinforced the importance of leaders taking advantage of the opportunities brought by Generative Artificial Intelligence. “I would like to invite you to take advantage of today to connect and learn from each other, as the beginning of a collaborative journey to unlock the power of artificial intelligence with us”, he highlighted. Next, Tania invited Microsoft's executive vice president and commercial director, Judson Althoff, to take the stage and present what the company and its partners have achieved using AI.

During the keynote, Judson highlighted that Microsoft has been on a long journey to support customers in their digital transformation, from the adoption of the cloud to the revolution brought about by artificial intelligence. The executive points out a very simple rule for business success during this digital journey: they must be at the forefront of transformations with the help of technology, and not the other way around. “It’s about putting AI to work for your business in all its activities,” he said.

To an audience made up of business leaders, IT decision makers and customers from different sectors, he invited experts from Microsoft to demonstrate how the company is using Copilot in its different products and how the tool is capable of accelerating processes, increasing efficiency of companies, increase productivity and leave leaders and teams free to take care of activities that add more value to the business. The keynote presented some use cases carried out by Microsoft's strategic partners, who took the stage to demonstrate how AI is already transforming their activities.

Gains from opportunities involve ethical and responsible use of AI

Also during the Microsoft AI Tour, the president of Microsoft Brazil, Tania Cosentino, participated in a press conference in which she addressed the opportunities of AI in Brazil and the importance of promoting the responsible use of technology. The panel also had the participation of Elias Abdala Neto, vice president of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Microsoft Brazil, who presented an unprecedented survey “Artificial intelligence in Brazil: exploring opportunities”.

“It is important that we set parameters to ensure that AI is developed responsibly. At Microsoft, based on our own learning, we enriched our Responsible AI Guide and what we used at home, we now share with our customers”, says Tânia Cosentino, who told us a little about how Microsoft works so that each person has their own Copilot himself. “This will accelerate productivity at scale and will bring important benefits to the nation, our companies and us as a society”, he concludes.

To ensure that artificial intelligence can empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more, Microsoft works through a series of actions and commitments designed to mitigate the potential risks of this technology. Since 2017, the company has a committee to review AI risk use cases and maintain ongoing dialogue with customers who use these tools. Furthermore, Microsoft presented the ethical principles of equity, responsibility, privacy and security that guarantee, even before any regulation, that technology is used to generate positive impacts on society.

“This governance ecosystem is built into the organization as a whole. From the research base to internal policies, including the engineering teams that work directly in the construction of artificial intelligence. This will enable us to have what we call a Responsible AI Office”, said Elias Abdala Neto, vice president of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Microsoft Brazil. Founded in 2019, this technical team collaborated, alongside the entire company, to formulate and evolve the Responsible AI Standard, a manual that transforms the company's principles into practical guidance for development teams.

To expand the promotion of responsible use of AI beyond its borders, Microsoft is committed to working with its customers on their AI journeys by constantly sharing learnings and guiding ethical and responsible guidelines in its implementation. To this end, the company provides transparency documentation for AI services, functional tools for operationalizing responsible AI practices and a Dashboard with a single dashboard so machine learning developers and other stakeholders can improve their models and make better decisions as they customize and build their solutions.

Brazil: opportunities for leadership and protagonism in discussions

During the press conference this Thursday (21), Tania Cosentino and Elias Abdala Neto also reinforced that Brazil is facing a great opportunity to take the lead in global discussions on the responsible use of AI and the promotion of positive impacts. The country is currently the president of the G20, a group that brings together the 19 largest economies in the world plus the European Union and the African Union. In November, Brazil will host a meeting between the bloc's leaders in Rio de Janeiro and will play a decisive role in the discussion agenda. “Brazil is at a very important moment for us to look at opportunities to take a leading role in discussions involving artificial intelligence. We see a very vigorous international discussion taking place, an alignment that has been established in several forums and by several countries regarding the need to build a consensus at the international level for AI governance. And we, as the country that is presiding over the G20, cannot avoid this discussion”, highlighted Elias.

Abdala pointed out Brazil's strategic role in promoting discussions on the use of technology as an important tool to face social issues, far beyond economic opportunities. As an example, he cited the tool PrevisIA, developed by Microsoft Brasil in partnership with Imazon, which helps identify areas at risk of deforestation in the Amazon by analyzing different factors with the help of artificial intelligence. “This type of work is practically impossible without a tool like this,” he noted.
