MercadoLivre started the 2016 call for technology startups to compete to receive contributions from its investment fund – the MercadoLivre Commerce Fund (MeLi Fund). Participating companies must present technology projects whose main objective is to improve the experience of buyers and sellers on the MercadoLivre e-commerce platform. Those interested in participating in this new call will have until February 26 to register their technological tools through the website http://developers.mercadolibre.com/melifund/. The company is a leader in e-commerce in Latin America and is present in 16 countries.

According to Helisson Lemos, the company's general director in Brazil, the fund's objectives are to increasingly improve the experience of the platform's users and, at the same time, foster the technology development sector. The solutions presented can benefit both the buying and selling site (the Marketplace) and other ecosystem services, such as MercadoPago (online payment tool), MercadoEnvios (Logistics, deliveries), MercadoLivre Publicidade (online advertising), MercadoShops (online stores) , KPL (e-commerce management).

The MercadoLibre Commerce Fund was created in 2013 and has already invested in several companies in Latin America, five of them in Brazil. With a value of US$ 10 million, the fund contributes to the growth of Brazilian startups – a sector that grew 18.5% in the last six months, according to the Brazilian Startups Association (ABStartups). According to the entity, there are already more than 4,000 startups across the country, most of them responsible for offering services and products to other companies (B2B).

"With the opening of MercadoLivre's APIs (Application Programming Interface) in 2012, any independent developer can create tools for the platform using our technology. In this way, we started to offer multiple business opportunities for programmers and software houses", highlights Nicolas Coniglio, manager of Mercado Libre Development in Brazil.
