Revenue rose 28% to R$ 3 billion, according to IDC

2017 has been a very positive year for the Brazilian PC market. After growing by 5% in the first quarter and 5% in the second, the sector once again presented significant figures and, between the months of July and September, it sold 1.36 million machines, 30% more than in the same period of 2016, when they were sold 1.04 million pieces of equipment. The data is from the IDC Brazil PCs Tracker Q3 study, carried out by IDC Brazil, a leader in market intelligence, consulting services and conferences with the Information Technology and Telecommunications industries. Q3 2017 revenue was R$ 3 billion, up 28% compared to Q3 2016 when revenue was R$ 2.3 billion. In comparison with the previous quarter, the growth was 9% in units and 11% in revenue.

Of the total number of computers sold in the third quarter of 2017, 424,000 were desktops and 936,000 were notebooks, representing, respectively, 14% and 38% more compared to the same period last year. “Notebooks drove the sector's growth, representing 69% of sales between July and September and exceeding industry expectations, as there was also growth in the corporate market”, says Pedro Hagge, research analyst at IDC Brasil.

In addition, Hagge points out the proximity to Black Friday and the renewal of the installed base as reasons for the growth of the sector. “With the arrival of two very important seasonal dates (Black Friday and Christmas), retailers anticipate buying machines for stock as demand increases considerably. The return of consumer confidence and the need to change equipment purchased in mid-2011 are other points that influenced the good moment of the market.” completes the analyst.

Also according to the IDC study, the average ticket for computers in the third quarter of 2017 was R$ 2,200, against R$ 2,234 in 2016, down 2%.

For the year, the consultancy points to a growth of 13% compared to 2016. “We believe that the market will reach 5.1 million units sold, of which 1.655 million are desktops and 3.436 million are notebooks. Revenue should be around R$ 11 billion”, concludes the analyst at IDC Brasil.
