GAC, a French consultancy focused on fostering innovation, carried out a survey on the volume of Brazilian companies with the potential to improve results through public mechanisms to foster innovation, especially the Lei do Bem.

The adhesion of companies in the country is still low, since the last report published by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC) shows that only 1,206 of them presented their RD&I activities for analysis. "This number of companies corresponds to less than 1% of those taxed by actual taxable income in Brazil and that could use the benefit of the Lei do Bem", explains Norma Garcia, president of GAC Brasil.

“Even with the difficulties encountered in 2015, a year of economic downturn, we believe that there is potential for many companies to optimize their results through the Lei do Bem in Brazil”, says Norma. “The ignorance of the benefit is still great, which reveals great opportunities for national companies of products and services to gain competitiveness in the global market”, he points out.

According to the GAC, another highlight of the survey is the existing difficulty in identifying innovation within the company. “Innovation does not have to be disruptive or tied to the creation of a new product or service. It can be present in a process improvement, for example”, emphasizes Norma.

“It is important to carry out an in-depth technical study to identify and support the innovation carried out by the company. A well-conducted study, using the concepts introduced by the Frascati manual – which is a reference for identifying RD&I activities – and answering the questions asked by the MCTIC, tends to maximize results in a safe and sustainable way”, concludes Norma.
