The Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications and the company Ericsson took the first step towards the creation of an Internet of Things (IoT) Innovation Hub for public safety. A cooperation letter of intent, signed on February 26, 2017, by Minister Gilberto Kassab and the president of Ericsson Brasil, Sérgio Quiroga, in Barcelona, Spain, provides for the participation of companies, startups, operators and universities in the creation of the center in São José dos Campos (SP).

"The partnership will give us the opportunity to collect subsidies to strengthen public security," said minister Gilberto Kassab.

According to MCTIC's Secretary of Information Technology Policy, Maximiliano Martinhão, the objective is to promote the use of the Internet of Things in public security activities. "We will invite developers to create applications for the area, invite universities to participate in this development and invite public managers to learn about the tools."

An existing solution in São José dos Campos has a control and monitoring system with 500 cameras, smart software integration and 205 kilometers of fiber optic cables. With the partnership between MCTIC and Ericsson, new technologies must be developed to increase the security of citizens, companies and institutions.

Minister Gilberto Kassab and secretary Maximiliano Martinhão were in Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress, a world technology event.
