Minister Kassab with new secretary Thiago Lopes

The new Secretary for Information Technology Policy at the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, Thiago Camargo Lopes, took office on October 11th with the guarantee of giving continuity to the policies being implemented by the ministry. “The work already carried out by the entire Sepin team has left an avenue open. I enter with a paved road, which is very positive. The intention is to continue the work that is in progress, such as the Brazilian Strategy for Digital Transformation, Start-Up Brazil and the National Plan for the Internet of Things”.

During the inauguration ceremony, minister Gilberto Kassab pointed out that Thiago Camargo Lopes has the appropriate training and technical profile for the position. “I am sure that you will obtain excellent results for your history and experience”, declared the minister.

Kassab added that the MCTIC teams have had an excellent performance since the merger of the Science, Technology and Innovation and Communications ministries, which resulted in a new administrative model. “Fortunately it worked. One area helps the other. Even in such a difficult time, with the lack of resources and the political crisis.”

Lawyer, the new head of Sepin held the positions of executive superintendent of Science, Technology and Innovation and Planning of Goiás and executive secretary of the Interstate Development Consortium of Central Brazil. He takes the place of Maximiliano Martinhão, the new president of Telebras.

During the transmission of the position, Martinhão explained how Sepin is divided and the attributions of each directorate. He stressed that the new configuration of the MCTIC expanded the competence of the Information Technology Policy Secretariat. “This work brought notoriety to the ministry. Today, we are fully dealing with the issues of the digital agenda, and the ministries recognize this role of Sepin”.
