McAfee announced the release of the solution McAfee Virtual Network Security Platform (McAfee vNSP) for Amazon Web Services (AWS). Unlike other solutions, McAfee's vNSP provides workload-level protection, eliminating a failure generated by other networking solutions.

“AWS has a broad spectrum of protection, just like cloud security, but users are still responsible for their security in the cloud – including security in their operating systems, applications and data traffic,” says Shishir Singh, vice president and general manager of the network security business unit, McAfee. “While firewall settings are important, security teams and cloud architects need to address vulnerability prevention, malware protection, and gain visibility into the lateral movement of threats. With the McAfee Network Security Platform, users will be able to go beyond basic protections and get more sophisticated protection systems for their cloud network.”

To stop malware in the cloud

Advanced malware can reach an organization's AWS workloads via network traffic, along with cross-site scripting, botnets, and SQL injection attacks. Implementing the infrastructure in the cloud can also open the window to new vulnerabilities that are not, in fact, the customer's responsibility – if a virtual server on AWS is compromised, the malware could travel to other vulnerable servers within the same customer environment. This lateral path is known as “East-West” network traffic, and typically represents the majority of communication within virtualized environments.

McAfee vNSP was built from the ground up to work on highly distributed AWS infrastructure to relieve some of the network congestion. Instead of following the traditional steps of monitoring an entire network segment to protect a single workload, McAfee vNSP provides protection at an individual level. This type of strategy is significantly different from other solutions on the market, ensuring visibility of intersegmental traffic, eliminating a failure in the network and effectively using security features only when really necessary. McAfee's vNSP solution built specifically for AWS can also be managed from the same console as McAfee's on-premises NSP.

Development teams can easily build security into their application deployment process, using automation frameworks like cloud formation templates, Chef and Puppet to deploy and manage McAfee vNSP on AWS. Network security controls are comprehensive and include prevention of online exploits, along with a web protection application, zero-day malware detection, and workload isolation through segmentation and detection of an attack coming from all sources. parts.

The McAfee vNSP for AWS represents McAfee's commitment to better security for AWS customers.

McAfee also recently released the new Amazon Machine Image (AMI) for McAfee Public Cloud Server Security Suite (PCS McAfee), which is available hourly from the AWS marketplace. This paid AMI is a flexible option for securing AWS workloads as long as there is no need to calculate your usage and pre-license before using it. Users can also access McAfee PCS from AWS Marketplace.
