Four cities will be able to generate more than twice the number of vacancies currently open

At least 1,535 jobs should be created by the end of 2015 by the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in Santa Catarina. Of these, more than 600 are open and at least 908 should be generated in the coming months. The estimate comes from the 2015 ICT Mapping, a survey carried out by the Geração TEC program that had the participation of 190 companies in the sector in the state in the first quarter. The information gathered will help to assemble the course schedule of this program, which offers professional qualification in the technological area for young people and adults.

In the results of the 2015 ICT Mapping, the cities with the highest number of open opportunities and also planned for the year stand out. The largest volume of vacancies is concentrated in Florianópolis (355), Joinville (313) and Blumenau (252). In the next positions on the list are Rio do Sul (120), Lages (96), Criciúma (91) and Tubarão (81). According to the president of the Catarinense Association of Technology Companies (ACATE), Guilherme Bernard, the survey is important for companies to recognize areas that are most lacking in labor. “The survey numbers reflect the strength and growth potential of Santa Catarina's technological sector, even in a context of economic difficulty such as the country is currently facing. The ICT Mapping also makes us see where the gaps in the demand for professionals are and helps to identify areas that need more investments in qualification”, highlights Bernard.

According to the survey, the forecast of growth in the sector in some regions is reflected in the expectation of future contractions. In four cities surveyed, the forecast for the generation of new vacancies by the end of the year should represent almost double the opportunities currently open. This is the case of Lages, which forecasts 184% plus admissions; Joinville, with an addition of 155%; Brusque, 95% and Florianópolis, 77%. The optimism accompanies the ACATE estimate, which forecasts a growth of around 20% for the sector in 2015.

According to the operational coordinator of Geração TEC, Jeritza de Souza, the results sent by the companies are already being worked on so that as many places as possible are supplied in 2015. “We are in the process of selecting educational institutions to be open selection processes for professional training courses in 10 cities in Santa Catarina. There will be about 20 classes and opportunities should open from the next fortnight onwards”, he explains.

Created in 2011 from a partnership between the State Secretariat for Sustainable Economic Development (SDS) and ICT sector entities, Geração TEC has already carried out 4,571 training courses in all regions of Santa Catarina. The program is run by the International Institute of Innovation (i3), with support from the Foundation for Research and Innovation Support of the State of Santa Catarina (Fapesc).
