Kaspersky Lab announces the launch of the Global Transparency Initiative as part of its ongoing commitment to protecting customers from cyber threats, regardless of their origins or purpose. With this initiative, Kaspersky Lab will engage the global information security community and other stakeholders in validating and verifying the reliability of products, internal processes and business operations, as well as introducing additional mechanisms in which the company can demonstrate and address any security issues promptly and completely. As part of this initiative, the company intends to provide its software source code, including software rule updates and threat detection, for independent third-party auditing and evaluation.

Society today is even more dependent on information and communication technology (ICT) as threats in cyberspace continue to proliferate and evolve. Given the frenetic pace of ICT deployment and the expansion of threats in different locations, Kaspersky Lab believes that increasing cooperation to secure cyberspace is more crucial than ever. Trust is essential to cybersecurity, and therefore trust must be the foundation of any collaboration between those seeking individual, organizational, and enterprise security from cyber threats. However, Kaspersky Lab also recognizes that trust is not just earned; it must be to win over and over again through an ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability.

Kaspersky Lab's Global Transparency Initiative is a reaffirmation of the company's commitment to earning the trust of its customers and partners every day. We never take this trust as a guarantee, but we want to strive for continuous improvement in any way we can.

The initial phase of Kaspersky Lab's Global Transparency Initiative will include the following steps:

(1) Commencement of an independent review of the company's source code by Q1 2018, with similar reviews of the company's software updates and threat detection rules to follow;

(2) Commencement of an independent assessment of (i) the company's secure development lifecycle processes, and (ii) its software and supply chain risk mitigation strategies by the first quarter of 2018;

(3) Development of additional controls to govern the company's data processing practices in coordination with an independent party that can attest to the company's compliance with said controls in the first quarter of 2018;

(4) Formation of three global Transparency Centers, with plans to establish the first in 2018, to address any security issues together with customers, trusted partners and government stakeholders; the centers will serve as an outlet for trusted partners to access company code reviews, software updates and threat detection rules, along with other activities. Transparency Centers will open in Asia, Europe and the US by 2020.

(5) Increased bug bounty awards up to US$ 100,000 for the most severe vulnerabilities found under the company's Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure program to encourage even more independent security researchers to complement our detection and mitigation efforts vulnerability by the end of 2017.

In addition to launching this initial phase of its Global Transparency Initiative, Kaspersky Lab looks forward to engaging with its stakeholders and the information security community to determine what the next phase of the initiative – starting in the second half of 2018 – should be. include. Suggestions for further steps and requests from third parties interested in collaborating with the company are welcome at: transparency@kaspersky.com.

Speaking about the need for this new initiative, Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Lab, says: "Balkkanization on the Internet benefits no one except cybercriminals. Deteriorating cooperation between countries helps bad guys in their operations, and public- Private companies don't work as they should. The Internet was created to bring people together and share knowledge. Cybersecurity knows no borders, but attempts to introduce geographic boundaries in cyberspace are counterproductive and must be stopped. We need to restore trust in the relationships between companies, governments and citizens. That's why we are launching this Global Transparency Initiative – we want to demonstrate that we are completely open and transparent. We have nothing to hide. I believe that with the help of these actions, we can overcome mistrust and support our commitment to protect people in any country on our planet".

Kaspesky Lab will share details of the Initiative's progress and additional activities on a regular basis. By collaborating with diverse stakeholders, Kaspersky Lab looks forward to our customers and partners joining us on this exciting journey.
