MV reinforces the urgency of compliance for a safer and more integrated environment

With the advancement of digital transformation in healthcare, the use of connected tools, combining integration and security, is increasingly becoming the focus of attention. In Brazil, this issue gains renewed urgency with the imminent entry into force of ANS Normative Resolution No. 623, of December 17, 2024, effective July 1. This new regulation from the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS), eagerly awaited by both software vendors and hospitals, establishes clear and mandatory guidelines for health plan providers, aiming to protect beneficiaries' sensitive information and, by extension, the integrity of the entire supplemental health system.

The text represents a significant milestone for both those who produce the technologies and those who use them daily, solidifying the foundation for a more connected and reliable healthcare ecosystem for operators and beneficiaries.

The resolution emphasizes, among other points, the implementation of information security controls, risk management, incident response, and the need for ongoing employee training. Failure to comply may result in sanctions and, more importantly, irreparable loss of credibility with beneficiaries.

Now, it will be necessary to define criteria for data organization, integrity, and reliability, facilitating beneficiary access to clear and accurate information. Providers must structure their systems to ensure prompt and complete responses to requests, avoiding inconsistencies. Furthermore, the regulation reinforces transparency by requiring providers to make information accessible (through portals, apps, or other digital channels). Beneficiaries can request and receive data on coverage, procedures, accredited networks, and rights more quickly and in an organized manner.

Within this context of transformation and adaptation, MV has already been operating within the ANS standards specified for this resolution. "The new ANS resolution only reinforces our conviction that investing in technologies and processes that ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of information is an ethical and business imperative," explains Emerson Zarour, Director of the Global Health Unit at MV, a leading healthcare management systems company.

The new resolution directly impacts the patient journey, allowing them to track their authorization step-by-step through an app, for example. In this situation, in addition to receiving authorization or denial information, the beneficiary enjoys digital convenience without the need for travel.

"Security and clarity in communicating patient data have always been a fundamental pillar of our work. Long before ANS's RN 623 came into effect, our systems and processes already incorporated best practices for data standardization, going beyond legal compliance and striving for excellence in the provider-beneficiary relationship," adds Zarour.

Unimed Campos

Compliance with the new standards can be seen in practice at one of the largest hospitals in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Unimed Campos is a practical example of how technology can be a powerful ally in managing sensitive healthcare data.

Through MV technologies, such as the connected care journey, the institution can have a unified and secure view of patient information, from electronic medical records to appointment and procedure history. This not only facilitates care coordination and more assertive clinical decision-making, but also allows for strict control over who accesses what and when, minimizing the risk of unauthorized access and leaks.

"We've been using tools focused on advanced encryption, data redundancy, and continuous monitoring, ensuring the availability and integrity of information, even in the face of unexpected events. Furthermore, the ability to integrate data from different sources in a single environment optimizes administrative and care processes, contributing to more efficient and patient-focused management," says Dr. Vilson Leite Batista, Board Member of Unimed Campos.
