A study shows that 95% of respondents consider investing in actions to develop digital capabilities. Increased profitability is the main expected impact

Increasingly, the ability to learn and deal with technology has been essential to business success. According to a global study conducted by Sage, a world reference in the market for cloud management solutions, 95% of companies in Brazil consider investing in digital skills — in the United States and United Kingdom, for example, 61% and 57% of companies have this intention, respectively.

Large corporations are the most committed to the qualification of their teams (98%), followed by medium (97%) and small (88%). Altogether, 75% of respondents say they consider running initiatives aimed at digital skills still in 2019, 19% think it is unlikely and 6% could not say.

When asked about the reasons that are driving digital training actions, entrepreneurs say: they are essential for business strategy (55%); gain competitive advantage (50%); the board considers it a priority investment (40%); collaborators requested (39%); competitors are doing (32%) and customers are demanding (27%).

When asked about the positive impacts of digital skills, the three main points raised were increased profitability (62%), better customer service (60%) and productivity (59%). More flexible work (50%) and more engaged employees (40%) were also mentioned.

Another important issue indicated by the interviewees was public policies to help improve the digital skills of Brazilians. Among the most cited initiatives that could be implemented by the government are free training (51%), tax incentives (49%), promotion of best practices (43%), technology subsidies (42%) and exchanges between companies in the same sector (38%).

For the president of Sage in Brazil and Latin America, Jorge Santos Carneiro, “this study shows that Brazil is advancing and developing digital skills has a direct impact on increasing operational efficiency. Successful strategies use technology as a means and bet on empowering people to deal with it. Digital transformation is only possible if everyone remains in a constant learning process”.

The results are part of the “We Power the Nation” survey, commissioned by Sage and run by YouGov. The study surveyed 2,994 executives in 12 countries: South Africa, Germany, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Spain, the United States, France, Ireland, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
