The 25th Annual IT Survey, released by Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), shows that Brazilian companies invested 7.5% of their gross revenue in information technology in 2013. In 2012, the percentage was 7.2%. The services sector led the growth, with annual investments equivalent to 10.7% of its revenue, followed by industry, with 4.6%, and commerce, with 3.3%.
 
The annual cost per user reached R$ 26,500 in 2013, up from R$ 25,000 the year before. In commerce, the average is R$ 15.2 thousand; in industry, R$ 24.8 thousand; and in services, R$ 30.4 thousand, with banks having the highest cost, R$ 63.4 thousand.
 
Six thousand large and medium-sized companies in the country participated in the survey, with 2,300 valid responses. For 2014, the expectation is that the percentage of investment in IT will be between 7.7% and 8.0%, reaching 8.5% in four or five years.
 
Other highlights of the study:
 
  • Microsoft continues to dominate enterprise workstation with Windows, Explorer and Office, with more than 90% of usage. 
  • On corporate servers, Windows has 70% and Linux has 18% usage. 
  • In Database: Oracle, SQL and Access hold more than 78% on the market. 
  • The Integrated Management Systems of TOTVS, SAP and Oracle have together 83% on the market. 
  • 84% of companies, declare to have an Integrated Management System (ERPs). 
  • In these companies, there is an average of 9 keyboards per printer and only 24% in color. 
  • 57% use of computers in companies is with: E-mail, Browser and Spreadsheet, in that order. 
  • Analytical Intelligence continues to be responsible for a significant part of the profits of large manufacturers: SAP, Oracle, TOTVS, Microsoft and IBM, in that order, are the leaders with 81%.
