Intel was chosen by Mandic Cloud Solutions, one of the main Brazilian cloud computing companies with more than 20 years in the market, to help solve a common problem in companies: reducing high electricity costs. The solution found was the activation of Intel Node Manager, a feature available on servers based on the Intel Xeon processor family, whose main functionality is the optimization of the use of each watt consumed by the installed park, and the OMPC software (Open Manager Power Center ), from Dell, which manages server power and temperature consumption.

This allowed Mandic Cloud Solutions to balance the use of equipment, reducing energy consumption and expanding the use capacity of its servers. The result was a 30% decrease in electricity consumption and an increase of up to 40% in occupancy capacity in Mandic server racks.

Accompanying this reduction in consumption, it was also possible to have greater control and monitoring of server temperatures, considerably decreasing the risk of unexpected shutdowns. In addition, Mandic Cloud Solutions minimized the environmental impact of its operation.

“Improving the management of electricity consumption has always been an aspect of great importance for competitive companies. Over time, the increase in the price of energy and a world that is moving faster and faster to favor companies with a sustainable profile, has made this type of management imperative. It ceased to be an option and became one of the main obligations of managers. And this goes for companies of all sizes, ”explains Fábio Iunis de Paula, Director of Intel's Business Area.

“Offering IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) and SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions to its customers, Mandic Cloud had a challenge in managing electricity consumption. We are very pleased to contribute to the good results obtained ”, he concludes.

In the view of Diego Morgado, operations manager at Mandic Cloud Solutions, the solution went beyond the surface of the problem. “The project brought visibility to something that was not noticeable to the naked eye. Energy also requires management, which in turn brings an increase in efficiency ”. As Mandic has 100% of its business based on data centers and servers, Morgado explains that the company's major focus is on offering high availability, quality and performance. “Something very much in line with this is the price. We have several strong competitors in the market and that is why we need a structure as good as and with a competitive price ”, he adds.

It took just two weeks to get the entire operation up. As soon as the solution became operational, the company's operations area dedicated the 30 days following the collection of the first information that allowed the technical analysis to be carried out. From the results of this analysis, it was possible to establish the parameters for the management of the entire infrastructure. Through this, it was possible to efficiently balance the entire data center.

"This is extremely important for us, since we were able to avoid creating hot zones and reduce the consumption of air conditioning," says Morgado. “This intelligence is only possible thanks to the provision of information in real time. If the team receives the alert that a server is consuming too much, load balancing is done on the spot, stabilizing the environment ”. Today 100% of the data center park is centrally monitored, allowing you to quickly identify which machines are consuming more energy than they should, and why.
