Intel and Jacto announce collaboration to bring the Internet of Things to Agribusiness through CIAg – Centro de Inovação no Agrinegócio, a non-profit organization established by the Shunji Nishimura Technology Foundation that will enable interaction between farmers, multiple companies in the industry and academia. The project initially counts with the participation of Jacto, Intel, and the Government of the State of São Paulo, through the State Department of Agriculture and Supply and the Paula Souza Center.

Among the planned actions are studies for the development of integrated systems for pest management and the development of a collaborative platform that will allow interoperability and secure sharing of data, captured by sensors and other equipment used in the day to day of agriculture.

The purpose of these systems is to collect, share and analyze unprecedented information obtained in the field by the various agents involved in the production chain, allowing decision-making, risk reduction and much more assertive prescriptions.

“By 2045 we will have used every economically viable area for planting on the planet and it is essential that resources are used in a more efficient and sustainable way. For this, we need a new collaborative mechanism in agribusiness that allows the integration not only of farmers and agronomists, but also of service providers and agricultural machines connected to the Internet of Things”, comments Fernando Martins, Executive Director of Intel Brazil. “Brazil is a world leader in agribusiness and the development of this technology here makes perfect sense”, he concludes.

“Currently 30% of all food produced in the world is lost due to the non-use of adequate technology”, comments Jorge Nishimura, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jacto Agricultural Machines. “Agribusiness is very complex and will need to intensify the use of IoT technologies in its chain by at least 100 times, to address these losses. This will only be possible through the development of local knowledge, skills and technologies. We are excited about the possibilities that the creation of the CIAg will open to the market, especially in its power to unite companies, producers and academia”, adds Jorge Nishimura.
