In addition to recently announcing the implementation of the Innovation Center in Rio de Janeiro, Intel Brasil has just announced the installation of the first IPCC – Intel Parallel Computing Center – in partnership with the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering (COPPE) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). The IPCC global program aims to fund grants to researchers and PhDs who develop software applications with parallel programming techniques using HPC.

“COPPE/UFRJ will be the first of several IPCCs in the country and will give Rio and Brazil access to and inclusion in the world's leading edge of high-performance computing, working in an integrated manner with the new Innovation Center” says Max Leite, Innovation Director at Intel in Brazil. “The COPPE/UFRJ IPCC will also develop projects to help the area of pre-salt seismic mapping”, concludes the executive. Currently, Intel also invests in innovative projects with the State through UERJ (State University of Rio de Janeiro).

By the end of the year, Intel plans to offer advanced HPC courses. “Education is a strategic topic and we are going to structure courses here, in Rio de Janeiro, through the HPC Educational Center”, recalls Fernando Martins, executive director of Strategy and Innovation at Intel Brazil.

Support for startups

Intel also intends to institutionally support Startup Programs of the City of Rio de Janeiro and the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and to offer the Innovation Center for new companies to develop their applications without cost with computing or programming software. On the other hand, the City Hall of the City of Rio de Janeiro and the Government of the State of Rio intend to “co-fund”, which means that Intel's investments in Rio will receive assistance from the City Hall and the State Government in the promotion of scholarships. research and projects.

“We are happy to have public policies that allowed us to attract Intel to our city and state. We are sure that, together, we will be developing solutions that improve people's lives with the use of high technology”, says Governor Luiz Fernando Pezão.
