The UK healthcare institution Liverpool Community Health (LCH) NHS Trust, which provides services to around 750,000 people in the communities of Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley, has developed a mobile application to expedite the delivery of management reports to members of the its board of directors. The OPERA app (Organizational Performance Electronic Reporting Application) was developed based on MicroStrategy Mobile and provides important information for decision making, in real time, directly on mobile devices, replacing a process that was previously performed manually and that took weeks to complete.

Since 2010, the organization has been part of the NHS Trust in England, a healthcare delivery model designed by the National Health Service (NHS). The LCH has a team of more than 3,000 professionals, 80% of whom are trained in the health field, including nurses, community leaders, health visitors, doctors, dentists, nutritionists, pediatricians, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists. LCH services allow people to be cared for within their own community, independently, without having to go to the hospital. Many of these services are offered around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Prior to the development of the mobile app, reports and analyzes were developed manually, compiled into Excel spreadsheets, printed and physically delivered to board members during their meetings. This process took a few weeks and due to this delay, the data were presented with a lag of almost a month. With OPERA, meetings have become much more productive and assertive. The directors can access the data at any time and carry out their own analysis and research, independently, when they deem it appropriate.

Positive impacts of the app

The new application not only contributed to a significant reduction in printing costs, but also increased the productivity of the team, freeing up analysts, who previously spent a great deal of time on reports, for other activities. OPERA improved the feedback process, increasing patient engagement, who began to respond to satisfaction surveys electronically on a mobile device, with complete confidentiality. This new approach allows the institution based on these returns to perform instant analysis, diagnose the weak points and, later, focus on correcting any highlighted issues.

The benefits provided by the app meant that mobility came to be seen favorably by LCH. New initiatives, aimed at extending the use of BI to the corporation as a whole, are being developed and the organization believes that mobile devices should increasingly be part of the basic work tools of staff, providing significant improvements in the provision of health care. . From the point of view of information governance, doctors will be able to collect more secure data about patients and, in the future, it will no longer be necessary to deal with paper records.

“We chose MicroStrategy Mobile as we wanted to eliminate any inherent risks with this app. We needed a mobile solution that had its quality proven by the market and at the same time was easy to implement and intuitive to use. We have worked with a variety of BI tools and MicroStrategy is by far the most advanced mobile platform available”, Ammy Singh, Head of Solutions at NCS-IT.
