Held between the 22nd and 25th of February, in Barcelona, Spain, the Mobile World Congress, the largest international event in the mobile technology industry, which brought together more than 2,000 exhibitors from all over the world, showed the latest in the sector. The event is promoted by the GSMA, which represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide and brings together nearly 800 operators with more than 250 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, which includes handset and device manufacturers, software companies, equipment providers and Internet companies, as well as organizations in related industrial sectors.

Technologies for drones

Intel and AT&T announced that the two companies are collaborating to test and define LTE requirements for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the drones. As part of the collaboration, they demonstrated a proof-of-concept using real-time, LTE-based video streaming from the UAV – utilizing AT&T's LTE network with Intel's modem. Connecting drones to the network will help solve many of the challenges facing the industry, including safety and security concerns, real-time communications, potential interference with manned aircraft, and support for future capabilities (such as beyond line-of-sight) as they are approved by the FAA.

5G Innovations

Cisco also reinforced collaboration with Ericsson and Intel to develop a 5G router for next-generation residential and commercial services. Together, they will begin developing and testing what is expected to be the industry's first 5G (Fifth Generation Mobile Networks) router. As members of the Verizon 5G Technology Forum, Cisco, Ericsson and Intel are joining Verizon within an ecosystem to accelerate important 5G innovations.

Brazilian participation

ZUP, a Brazilian company that enables the digitalization of traditional businesses through a technological platform to accelerate systems integration and facilitate the administration of APIs, participated in the event as part of its strategy to internationalize the ZUP Real solution, which is already helping some of the largest corporations in Brazil, such as Vivo, Natura, Santander, Serasa and Buscapé, to deal with all the complexity of systems integration and outsourcing of services, delivering their integration projects up to 10 times faster and with half the costs compared to traditional way. “Our proprietary technology connects and automates the process of integrating any systems, which is usually a long and expensive cycle as it involves many professionals specialized in programming in different languages”, says Bruno Pierobon, one of the founders of ZUP.
