The objective is to ensure the security of data communication between society and the Government
The National Program for Certification and Homologation of Information and Communication Technology Assets (ICT) was launched on August 29 by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Management (MP) and the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro). The two bodies signed a technical cooperation agreement to promote the security of society and the State in data communications. With the measure, the federal government will only purchase ICT products certified by organizations accredited by Inmetro.
“This legal provision is the result of the work of various bodies and will benefit society. We work together to prevent and guarantee the security of data communications for citizens and government entities”, says Marcelo Pagotti, Secretary of Information Technology at the Ministry of Planning, Development and Management (MP). According to the secretary, products certified by the institute can also be purchased by Brazilian citizens.
The federal government suppliers will have to adapt to the established by the Electronic Government Interoperability Standards (ePING), of the Information Technology Secretariat (STI). “STI coordinates a working group focused on information security within the scope of the ePING architecture. Soon we will publish more criteria for the certification of ICT programs and equipment, the focus of the new program”, he adds.
“Inmetro will provide all technical support for the formulation of the Conformity Assessment Program for Technology Assets, which will have to comply with new safety requirements, based on international regulatory practices. All will be evaluated by a Certification Body Accredited by the institute”, informs Annalina Camboim, director of Conformity Assessment at Inmetro.
In addition to Inmetro, other institutions accredited by the institute will also be able to certify ICT assets. For this, it is mandatory to follow the rules established by the National System of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (Sinmetro).
