Business management software maker IFS has signed an agreement to acquire Mxi Technologies, a provider of integrated maintenance management software for the aviation industry. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Mxi serves the defense industry and commercial flight operators, third-party maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) companies and equipment manufacturing companies (OEMs) with software, support and services. Based in Ottawa, Canada, it is a global organization with over 265 employees.

Mxi's flagship is the Maintenix suite, uniquely designed for aviation companies to maximize the revenue potential of their aviation assets through standard, lean and predictive maintenance. It serves from emerging and mid-sized organizations to the world's largest aviation companies. The company's customer base includes Southwest Airlines, Air France, KLM, Qantas, China Airlines, LATAM, Icelandair, NetJets, Boeing, BAE Systems, Saab, Pratt & Whitney and some air forces around the world.

“We will continue to invest in and market Maintenix and IFS Applications to customers who want a point-to-point solution, but we also believe that an integrated end-to-end solution will be attractive to many companies in this industry,” said IFS President and CEO, Alastair Sorbie, noting that with the acquisition of Mxi, the company becomes a leading provider of maintenance software to commercial and defense aviation operators, MROs and OEMs.

According to the executive, the acquisition is in line with IFS' growth strategy and ambition to become a leading provider of business management software for global customers in the asset, service and product management segments. The purchase is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017, after shareholder approval and regulatory approval.
