Notice sought institutions that offer the best artificial intelligence solutions for imaging diagnosis

IdeiaGov, Innovation Hub that brings market and society solutions to the challenges of the State Government of São Paulo, selected three proponents to participate in the technological challenge and find a solution for the use of artificial intelligence algorithm to diagnose COVID-19 through computed tomography imaging and chest x-ray.

The three selected to meet the challenge and show how artificial intelligence can be linked to health benefits were: Consortium between MICLB FEEC Unicamp and Neuralmin, Otawa Health and Visibilia.

The consortium between MICLB FEEC Unicamp and Neuralmin presented a solution that can be used both in chest radiography and in computed tomography and that involves the use of convolutional neural networks (CNN), aiming to improve the efficiency of decisions and care.

Otawa Health, which has experience in mobile application development and artificial intelligence projects, created an AIIA COVID-19 tool for probability detection for COVID-19 using x-ray images.

Visibilia, a Latin American consultancy specializing in the application and development of strategic business solutions, presented a system named FADCIL, which will automatically identify coronaviruses in medical lung images using Deep Learning, type of machine learning that trains computers to perform tasks like human beings, which include speech recognition, image identification and predictions.

"The challenge was very well defined and the solutions chosen fulfilled exactly what we were expecting from the use of artificial intelligence for imaging diagnosis", explains Felipe Massami Maruyama, director of innovation in government at Impact Hub ahead of IdeiaGov.

"This is a new and expected stage of the RadVid-19 platform – which is part of IdeiaGov – and since April it has contributed to the diagnosis of the new coronavirus in hospitals across the country. Now, with these selected companies, we will be able to work with a national algorithm and continue this project", explains Prof. Dr Giovanni Guido Cerri, president of the Center for Technological Innovation – InovaHC at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (HCFMUSP).

Benefits

The companies will have access to the technical teams of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (HCFMUSP), the Technological Research Institute of the State of São Paulo (IPT) and the Data Processing Company of São Paulo (PRODESP ), for guidance, support in the execution of proofs of concept and pilot tests, in addition to exchanging technical information, of a non-confidential nature, related to coping with the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, they will have a referral to HCFMUSP or other Scientific, Technological and Innovation Institutions ("ICTs") linked to the São Paulo State Health Department (SES) to carry out tests, use cases and pilot projects and , will also be able to apply the solution in real-use environments for testing and validation of the method both for technological and marketing approval.

They will also be connected with potential suppliers and partners to scale up the scale production of the solution that was presented, they will receive support for the internationalization of the solutions that are implemented and will have a connection between the selected project proponents with angel investors and investment funds. venture capital, as well as sources of public and private financing for RD&l.

About IdeiaGov – IdeiaGov is an Innovation Hub that brings market and society solutions to the challenges of the Government of the State of São Paulo, offering better public services for citizens and more efficiency in public management. The program works on three action fronts: as a meeting space between different actors of the Impact Entrepreneurship Ecosystem and the Science, Technology and Innovation System; through the acceleration of businesses that solve challenges in the public interest and complement the government's work in fostering a prosperous and just society; and through support programs that enhance the relationship and the contracting of innovative solutions for government agencies in the State of São Paulo.

Led by the São Paulo State Economic Development and Government Secretariats, IdeiaGov is operated by the Impact Hub and has several partners: the São Paulo State Secretariat of Health, the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo Paulo, the Technological Research Institute of São Paulo (IPT), the São Paulo State Attorney General (PGE) and the São Paulo Data Processing Company (PRODESP), in addition to organizations operating in the areas of business generation , from science and technology, government innovation and social technologies, such as Wylinka and the Tellus Institute.

About InovaHC – The Technological Innovation Center – InovaHC – connects entrepreneurs and resources in order to generate more efficient healthcare innovation solutions for managers, physicians and patients. To do so, it works on three fronts: In.cube (Incubator of ideas), In.pulse (Business Accelerator) and In.pacte (impacts people by supporting the potential and scalability of the businesses developed). Its general proposal is in accordance with state and federal laws, which are motivated to make technological innovation a strategic component of economics and development.
