IBM announces the implementation of the IBM Skills Academy program in Latin American countries to provide content, dynamics and programs that support the imminent need for requalification and improvement of professionals for the digital economy era in the region.

IDC predicts that by 2022, the digital economy should account for more than 50% of Latin America's GDP, with growth driven by digitally enhanced operations.

“We believe that the adoption of technology to transform business models and a culture of continuous learning is the key to success in the era of the digital economy”, explains Ana Paula Assis, president of IBM Latin America. “Programs like IBM Skills Academy create a unique synergy between business and technology within the university, where students and teachers can build on skills that are increasingly needed by the global workforce, giving them an edge in the business world” .

According to the IBV study, in the next three years, 120 million professionals from the 10 largest economies in the world will have to undergo a training and requalification process as a result of the development in artificial intelligence and new technologies.

The IBM Skills Academy focuses on emerging digital fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, blockchain, cloud and IoT. IBM will train selected universities that will pass on content to students through a variety of courses, from social sciences to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). After completing them, students will be able to obtain IBM certificates and university credits, while preparing for the current and future job market.

“At IBM, we are dedicated to helping educate and develop the workforce through programs that help teachers, students and society as a whole”, comments Alcely Barroso, leader of Global University Programs at IBM Latin America. "IBM Skills Academy provides resources, guidance and content to bring together the best elements of education and careers associated with technology."

Saint Paul Escola de Negócios is one of IBM's partner institutions in Latin America to implement the program across the region.

The initiative is available in 10 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.
