During VMworld 2016, VMware and IBM announced the industry's first cloud service that helps organizations move their applications to the cloud quickly and easily. With more than 500 customers involved, the global partnership between IBM and VMware aims to help organizations reduce this process from weeks or months to hours.
This partnership between the companies will allow VMware applications from on-premises environments to be migrated to the cloud without incurring the costs and risks associated with reload operations, re-architecting applications and resetting security policies. Marriott International, Clarient Global LLC and Monitise are some of the customers who have already started the transition.
IBM is a strategic cloud platform for VMware users with approximately 50 highly scalable and highly secure cloud data centers worldwide. With nearly 100% of Fortune 100 customers using VMware technologies, the partnership is designed to preserve and extend customer investments across thousands of data centers.
“Enterprises need quick and easy ways to install and transfer applications across both private and public cloud environments,” said Robert LeBlanc, senior vice president, IBM Cloud. In addition to the new services, IBM is training more than 4,000 service professionals to provide customers with VMware solutions. The VMware Cloud Foundation presentation combines VMware's industry-leading compute, storage and virtualization solutions into an integrated platform. For the first time, organizations can automatically deploy pre-configured VMware Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) environments on IBM Cloud in hours instead of weeks or months. The platform integrates VMware vSphere, VMware Virtual SAN, VMware NSX and VMware SDDC Manager, and gives customers more comprehensive choice in their infrastructure decisions.
