System is designed for hybrid multicloud security and cloud native application development

IBM introduced the z15 ™ to the market, a new enterprise platform that offers the ability to manage customer data privacy in hybrid multicloud environments. With the z15, customers can manage who accesses data through policy-based controls, with an unprecedented ability to immediately revoke access to data in the hybrid cloud.

The circulation of data between counterparties and with third parties is often the main cause of data breaches. According to a recent survey conducted by the Ponemon Institute in partnership with IBM, 60% of companies reported experiencing a data breach caused by a provider or a third party in 2018. With the growing adoption of multicloud hybrid environments, the challenge of maintaining the security and data privacy is greater and more complex.

The innovative new z15 system is the result of a partnership between IBM Systems and IBM Research, which made it possible to supply Docker containers for the platform, designed to offer container scalability and security advantages in the market. The Docker services developed by IBM Research on the z15 allow Docker containers to run at a higher density, with greater security and greater scalability. With this, the z15 is an ideal system for workloads in the cloud.

In addition, the z15 represents four years of development within IBM - with more than 3,000 IBM Z patents issued or in process. The main innovations of the system, based on this investment, include:

General encryption - Using widespread encryption, IBM introduced the new Data Privacy Passports technology, which customers can use to control how data is stored and shared, allowing their information to be protected and provisioned, as well as revoking access to data at any time, not only in the z15 environment, but also across an enterprise’s hybrid multicloud environment. The z15 can also encrypt data anywhere - across the spectrum of hybrid multicloud environments - to help companies ensure the security of their data, wherever they are.
Native cloud development- gives customers a competitive advantage by transforming the way they modernize installed applications, build new native applications for the cloud, and securely integrate the most important workloads across different clouds.
Instant recovery - This is a pioneering industry approach that allows you to limit the cost and impact of scheduled and unscheduled system downtime and allows users to access full system capacity to minimize disruptions and reinitialize IBM Z services, providing a temporary increase in ability to recover quickly for lost time.

In addition to the z15, IBM announced a new, state-of-the-art enterprise storage system, the IBM DS8900F, designed specifically for mission-critical hybrid multicloud environments. The next generation of the IBM DS8900F storage system offers comprehensive cybersecurity, data availability and top-level resiliency.

The IBM DS8900F offers customers an availability time in excess of 99.99999%, several disaster recovery options with near zero recovery time to ensure data protection and the highest response speed of applications on the market. With these new enterprise-class storage services, IBM Z customers now have a new level of control to store their data where it makes the most economic and business sense, while maintaining resilience, availability and the highest performance in the industry.

Global financing

IBM Global Financing offerings for z15 include custom leasing programs with payment plans in line with business benefits, for customers with credit ratings who want to upgrade from models prior to z15, convert their own IBM Z into a leasing plan along with the upgrade, or purchase a new z15.
