Partnership supported by Procergs and Ceic 
 
Huawei and PUCRS, through the Faculties of Informatics (Facin) and of Administration, Accounting and Economics (Face), announced a new phase of their research and development cooperation with the implementation of the Smart City Innovation Center. Located in Porto Alegre (RS), the center will have as main objective the research and development of solutions aimed at Smart Cities and Internet of Things, in addition to being a structure for tests and proofs of concepts that add value to the productive sector. The Health and Education areas are also covered with projects from the Center.
 
The initiative, which has the support of the Data Processing Company of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Procergs) and the Integrated Command Center of the City of Porto Alegre (Ceic), was presented during the Huawei Open Day event, held in Sao Paulo. 
 
The physical structure of the Smart City Innovation Center will be installed at Tecnopuc - PUCRS Science and Technology Park - and should be inaugurated in the 1st semester of 2016. The center will accelerate the construction and approval of the software that will compose the solutions under development since March of this year. year. “The PUCRS and Huawei teams work on researching and developing solutions such as, for example, an intelligent public lighting system. It is possible to know when a lamp is burned out or when it is close to the time to change it, bringing more savings and security to the population ”, says Fabiano Hessel, professor at Facin and project coordinator. 
 
With this center, Huawei will expand and improve research in Smart Cities so that applications developed in areas such as education, health and safety can be applied in Brazilian cities “We are happy to participate in this partnership with PUCRS and use our global expertise to collaborate with the development of new solutions and technologies. With the expansion of this agreement with PUCRS, Huawei reaffirms its long-term commitment to innovation in Brazil ”, reveals Tito Ocampos, R&D Manager at Huawei.
