Siemens, a maker of manufacturing operations management software and product lifecycle management services, announces the choice of Capital™ electrical design software for automotive aftermarket documentation by Grupo PSA, the world's second largest automaker from Europe.

The PSA Group is one of the first to embrace innovation by producing autonomous and connected cars, manufacturing five car brands: Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel and Vauxhall. The company has a process that provides various types of drawings in the after-sales service documentation, speeding up diagnosis.

With the advanced technology of Capital software, Grupo PSA has replaced its manual process and can now automatically generate its electrical system diagrams using data provided directly by the company's electrical/electronic (E/E) engineering department and its electrical cable suppliers to ensure software development following the “correct-by-construction” model.

The result is accurate documentation created based on data extracted in real-time “as-manufactured” by Grupo PSA's suppliers, helping to ensure fast and effective vehicle maintenance. Grupo PSA now consolidates its digital business and continues to innovate the mobile solutions of the future.

Internal tools for electrical systems can involve high maintenance costs, in addition to challenges that include obsolescence of IT equipment, outdated specifications and increased complexity of the electrical-electronic system; this means that there is no room for error-prone manual processes. Grupo PSA needed perfect, easy-to-use technology to help ensure data continuity from electrical systems. After exploring the available software tools, the company chose Siemens Capital software, which provides automated electrical documentation in the “correct-by-construction” model via diagram synthesis.

“The use of Capital software in the electrical drawings and after-sales documentation has brought a considerable reduction in time and cost,” said Yves Bouvier, vice president of diagnostics at Grupo PSA. “We've already had a significant reduction with Capital software in the lead times for our after-sales documentation of schematic drawings; our expectation is to obtain a reduction above 30% in delivery schedules.”

Siemens Capital software's electrical and electronic systems development tools cover the entire electrical systems development process, from system definition, through design and manufacturing, to the automated production of service documentation. The digital continuity of Grupo PSA's electrical data with Capital software allows post-sales documentation to be generated directly from actual engineering design data. This process provides data accuracy, efficiency and time-to-market, which are competitive advantages in today's ever-evolving automotive industry. Capital software is part of Xcelerator, an integrated portfolio of software development platform, services and applications that can be customized and tailored to meet specific customer and industry needs, helping organizations of all sizes become digital enterprises.

“The PSA Group is at the forefront of automotive developments; in this way, the company recognizes the importance of adopting advanced technologies such as our Capital software,” said Martin O'Brien, senior vice president of the Integrated Electrical Systems business group at Siemens. “With Capital software's built-in digital data continuity capability, Grupo PSA has an advantage; so we anticipate that we will still provide them with other digitization technologies for their next-generation ventures,” he concluded.
