Brasoftware, a technology solutions provider and one of Microsoft's main partners in Brazil, helped EcoRodovias to carry out the planning and annual budget for software asset management, based on the results delivered through consulting in SAM - Software Asset Management, with a focus on Microsoft.

EcoRodovias' main objective with the SAM is to optimize investments in Microsoft software licensing, which is possible through a check on each of the approximately 3,200 machines among the more than ten companies in the group. The integrated logistics infrastructure company – which operates intermodal logistics assets, road concessions and related services, in a sustainable and socially responsible manner – currently has nine EA Microsoft contracts with Brasoftware.

SAM is a software asset management job that detects if the user actually needs a certain program or if the application is not being used, to optimize the use of Microsoft licenses. The practice offers not only financial savings, but also the solution of common problems such as data security and employee productivity. In addition, it helps IT management to better make their investments in technology and stay in compliance with the use of software.

“SAM brings a lot of peace of mind regarding the annual software growth reporting process. This ensures compliance with Microsoft, which makes the customer more comfortable knowing that at the end of the period there will be this survey to be reported to the supplier”, explains Fernando Brito, manager of SAM Solutions at Brasoftware.

The process guarantees a favorable situation for all sides involved: the client is reassured regarding the guarantee and business security and the issue of transparency. For Microsoft, it is interesting to know that this work is done and that there is a concern with these issues, while Brasoftware sells the licenses and provides day-to-day support.

Brasoftware has been performing SAM for EcoRodovias annually since 2013, always in the period before the expiration of Microsoft contracts. The process is carried out using SCCM – System Center Configuration Manager, which exports a report of all the company's software assets to then “cross” this result with the machines. In this way, it is possible to keep the compliance, in addition to managing the budget with annual budget planning focused on software licenses.

“In addition to supporting them with the complexity of management with licensing, we help in the process of dividing the amounts between cost centers. The fact that we are certified by the manufacturer also reflects positively on the company, showing transparency and commitment to compliance with software legislation and respect for copyright and property rights”, comments Brito.

SAM also helps customers grow in size and maturity, following their company's needs with more flexibility and agility. “The process shows exactly the software that the company needs and that the amount paid for licensing is just what is needed. Nothing more and nothing less. Often the budget can even increase from one year to the next, but it is possible to know that it will not be wasted money, but a necessary and accurate investment, according to the results of the reports”, concludes the executive.
