An ordinance from the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC) was published this Monday (20), in the Official Gazette of the Union, creating an inter-ministerial working group to prepare the Brazilian Digital Strategy, with the country's priorities. in the so-called digital economy. The actions involve the computerization of the production, commercialization and consumption of goods and services from the digital environment.

The WG will have 60 days – extendable for the same amount of time – to define the basis for the plan. At the end of this period, the proposal will be submitted for public consultation and, subsequently, sent to the Presidency of the Republic. The group's inaugural meeting should take place in the first half of March.

"We want to build a common strategy in the digital sphere. We seek to offer a space to discuss these guidelines. In addition to government agencies, we will also seek to include strategic audiences, such as the scientific community, civil society and the productive sector", said the director of the Department of Sectoral Policies and Programs in Information and Communications Technology, Miriam Wimmer.

The guidelines pointed out by the working group will serve to boost the digital economy in the country. Since 2012, the country has lost 33 positions in the global competitiveness ranking prepared by the World Economic Forum – currently, Brazil ranks 81st among 138 nations analyzed. According to Miriam Wimmer, the Brazilian Digital Strategy can serve as a driver to improve national indicators and stimulate economic development.

"What we perceive with these international indicators is that there is a strong correlation between digitization indicators and economic development. We can see this with examples such as South Korea and even Colombia, which already have a document to guide actions aimed at digital economy. Today, the real and digital economy are one. We have to prepare ourselves so that we can create conditions for economic development for Brazil", he said.

Representation

The WG will have ten representatives, two of them from the MCTIC: the Secretary of Information Technology Policy, Maximiliano Martinhão, who is also the coordinator of the team, and the director Miriam Wimmer. There will also be representatives from the Ministries of Justice and Citizenship; of Defense; of Foreign Affairs; of culture; Industry, Foreign Trade and Services; Planning, Development and Management; Institutional Security Office (GSI); and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel).
