Associates and experts discussed the opportunities and challenges

ABES invited associates to the IoT Committee meeting, held on June 27, in São Paulo, with the aim of stimulating synergy between companies and debating the various aspects and impacts of the National Iot Plan, whose elaboration is in progress. “This is the time to unite our skills”, said the CEO of Taggen Soluções em IoT and Sawluz Informática, Werter Padilha, coordinator of the ABES Iot Committee and member of the Advisory Board of the National IoT Plan, at the opening of the meeting. The executive considers that the plan offers a positive agenda for entrepreneurs in the IT sector, with the definition of priorities, strategies and long-term objectives.

Jomar Silva: "The hardware is just the tip of the iceberg"

With the theme “From the device to the cloud in an intelligent way”, Jomar Silva, developer evangelist at Intel, reinforced the importance of software and developers: “Hardware is just the tip of the iceberg. The great IoT opportunity for Brazil is software. We have to seek solutions to Brazilian problems here”, he said, citing data that show that by 2019 there will be 4.5 million people working with software development. Silva also addressed the main challenges for companies, which involve information security, interoperability between equipment, the implementation of advanced data analysis, the scalability of solutions, cost management, among other relevant aspects. "In the future we will have an autonomous world, defined by software, from the computing resources available in the data centers, of two-way communication between things", he explained.

The specialist also reinforced the importance of solutions developed in partnership by companies of all sizes and skills. “Nobody is going to have an entire IoT solution. In this way, I can use Intel, which has a startup accelerator, as an example. Access the presentation here.

Public policy for IoT

Weter Padilha detailed the phases already carried out of the Study “Internet of Things: an action plan for Brazil”, a BNDES project with the participation of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC), in addition to emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurs to analyze the documents made available for consultation by the consortium that manages the project.

Werter: Plan continues despite changes in government

Composed of several stages, the study includes three phases: diagnosis and aspiration of Brazil in IoT; definition of priority sectors of the Brazilian economy to receive the necessary investments for the development of IoT; and formulation of actions aimed at accelerating the implementation of the IoT market in the country. Padilha also explained about the selection criteria of the 12 countries/regions that make up the benchmark: the prominent position of IoT in the locality, the role played by the State and if there are similar challenges to Brazil. "After a public consultation conducted, it was established that the implementation of the Internet of Things in Brazil aims to promote the sustainable development of Brazilian society, increase the competitiveness of the economy and improve the population's quality of life," he said. BNDES presentations and reports can be accessed here.

“We will also have a fourth phase, which is to take all the study documents to the congress for evaluation so that we have a National IoT Plan that integrates all the aspirations of society”, said the coordinator, emphasizing the seriousness in carrying out the work: “This is one of the few government projects that has a schedule, which has been fulfilled even with the changes that have taken place in the government”.
