Gartner announces that three megatrends will jumpstart companies' businesses and help them survive in the digital economy over the next five to ten years. Artificial Intelligence (AI), transparent immersive experiences and digital platforms are trends that will deliver unparalleled intelligence, create profoundly new experiences and offer platforms to help organizations connect with new business ecosystems.

"Enterprise architects who are focused on technology innovation must evaluate these high-profile trends and the technologies presented, as well as the potential impact on their business," says Mike J. Walker, Research Director at Gartner. "In addition to the potential business impact, these trends offer significant perspectives for architectural leaders to help senior IT and business executives respond to digital business opportunities and threats. This creates actionable signature-ready solutions that deliver diagnostics to guide decision making." investments".

Gartner analysts will exclusively present research on the three megatrends that will drive digital business for the next decade during Symposium/ITxpo 2017, Gartner's largest and most important global technology event taking place between the 23rd and 26th of October. Gartner estimates that megatrends will be based on:

Artificial Intelligence Everywhere – Artificial Intelligence technologies will be the most innovative class of technology in the next ten years. This is due to the enormous computational power, virtually infinite availability of amounts of data and unprecedented advances in deep neural networks. All of this will allow companies with AI technologies to leverage data to adapt to new situations and solve problems that had not been encountered before. Companies seeking growth in this area need to consider technologies such as Deep Learning, Deep Reinforcement Learning, Artificial General Intelligence (IAG), Autonomous Vehicles, Cognitive Computing, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), Interfaces User Interfaces, Business Ontology and Taxonomy Management, Machine Learning, Smart Dust, Smart Robots, and Smart Desktop.

Transparent immersive experiences – Technology will continue to be increasingly human-centric, allowing transparency between people, businesses and objects. This relationship tends to be more intertwined as the evolution of technology becomes more adaptive, contextual and fluid between the work environment, home and interaction with businesses and others. At the Gartner Symposium, Gartner analysts will present key technologies to consider, including 4D printing, augmented reality, computer-brain interface, connected homes, human enhancements, nanotube electronics, virtual reality, and volumetric displays in unconventional formats.

Digital platforms – Emerging technologies require the revolution of enabling foundations that provide the necessary volume of data, advanced computing power and ecosystem support. The transition from compartmentalized technical infrastructure to platforms that enable ecosystems lays the foundation for entirely new business models that form a bridge between humans and technology. Key platform solutions that will be discussed at Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2017 include 5G, Digital Twin (digital twin, or 3D digital model of a physical operating system), Edge Computing (network edge devices), Blockchain, IoT platform (Internet of Things), Neuromorphic Hardware, Quantum Computing, Serverless PaaS and Software-Defined Security.

"When these themes are brought together, we can clearly see how human-centric technologies within immersive experiences – such as smart work environments, connected homes, augmented reality, virtual reality and the growing computer-brain interface – are becoming the technologies of tip that pull the other trends", says Walker.

Emerging "AI Everywhere" technologies move quickly within the Hype Cycle. Deep learning, autonomous and cognitive computing are only now growing, which shows that they are key enablers that create immersive and transparent experiences. Digital platforms grow on the Hype Cycle and illustrate the new realities of IT. Quantum computing and Blockchain are poised for more transformative and significant impacts in the next five to ten years.

“These megatrends illustrate that the more organizations are able to make technology an integral part of employee, partner and customer experiences, the more they will be able to connect their ecosystems to platforms in new and dynamic ways,” explains Walker.
