Mergers and acquisitions of Internet companies, also known as dot com, grew by 124% in 2012, totaling 56 transactions, with the largest number of deals involving foreign companies buying Brazilian companies, with 31 deals, representing 55% of transactions.

“Until last year, despite accounting for operations, internet companies were not treated as a separate sector in our research. The 2012 numbers justify our decision to consider this type of business as an independent segment. The sector is in constant development, and had record growth compared to the other business lines analyzed. It is still difficult to imagine what the limit would be in the Internet world, which is why we believe that the trend is still one of growth”, says Luis Motta, partner-leader of the Mergers and Acquisitions area at KPMG in Brazil and responsible for the research.

KPMG's Research on Mergers and Acquisitions in Brazil is carried out quarterly and investigates the mergers and acquisitions actually concluded and disclosed involving companies present in the country.
