In an open letter, ABES and other associations make themselves available to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to collaborate productively and with a spirit of construction for an environment conducive to innovation, to the development of the technology-based goods and services sector in partnership with the federal government

São Paulo, January 13, 2023 – ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies, together with 12 other associations in the technology sector, today signed a open letter to Minister Luciana Barbosa de Oliveira Santos, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), in which she suggests that future leaders of the Secretariat of Science and Technology for Digital Transformation and of the Secretariat for Technological Development and Innovation necessarily have a technical background and profile and prior knowledge of the functioning of the ministry.

“The development of Brazil cannot do without scientific literacy, technological education, the promotion of applied research in the production of technology-based goods and services. At that moment, the MCTI's greater mission of raising employment levels in Science and Technology to generate wealth from innovation and digital transformation and socialization of knowledge, becomes the task of all of us", expresses the letter sent this Friday to Minister Luciana Barbosa de Oliveira Santos.

The Associations made themselves available to “continue collaborating with the MCTI in its management, in a productive way and with the spirit of building an environment conducive to innovation, to the development of the technology-based goods and services sector in partnership with the federal government”, and highlighted that “(…) the decision to divide the Secretariat of Entrepreneurship and Innovation into the Secretariats of S&T for Digital Transformation and the Secretariat of Technological Development and Innovation was the right one”, since the division “will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the activities of the MCTI in revitalizing the national strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation”. The document also emphasizes the wish of the signatory Associations that the new leaderships of the secretariats continue to work “in a harmonious and productive way with the career servers, as well as in the dialogue with all sectors of the digital ecosystem that, from now on, seek to continue adding to the efforts to strengthen the Brazilian economy based on the engagement of the triple helix composed of the State, Companies and Academia”.
