Focus is on small and medium industries in the State of São Paulo

A cooperation agreement signed, on August 22, between the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) and the Brazilian Company for Industrial Research and Innovation (Embrapii) will allow small and medium-sized industries in São Paulo to obtain resources for investment in innovation at a reduced cost and, above all, with virtually zero bureaucracy. The president of the Federation and Ciesp, Paulo Skaf, signed the document for Fiesp, and for Embrapii, Jorge Guimarães, its executive president.

At a time the country is going through, with companies operating under an adverse economic scenario, what makes the big difference, says Paulo Skaf, is innovation. "We cannot lose sight of the fact that the world is changing and that is why we must work hard on innovation and this agreement will make our industries more competitive," said the president of Fiesp at the opening of the event in which the agreement was signed.

In addition to resources for small and medium-sized industries in São Paulo, the objective of the agreement is to establish mutual cooperation for the execution of joint actions that contribute to the execution of events to bring small and medium-sized companies in the industrial sector of São Paulo together with Embrapii units .

The agreement has the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications. For its minister, Gilberto Kassab, it is the opportunity to consolidate a project considered to be exemplary, which is that of Embrapii. "We have here an institution that, despite the difficult economic situation in the country in recent years, has continued to grow by adding and supporting important projects, allowing us to see horizons beyond the crisis with breath-taking work, in the short, medium and long term. ,” said Kassab.

“Our industry, today, with a lot of sacrifice, corresponds to only 10% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but it contributes with a third of our revenue. The Brazil cost also makes our competitiveness unfeasible. That's why Brazil needs to rescue its industry, says José Luis Gordon, director of Planning and Management at Embrapii. “Embrapii has a successful model, where practically a third of the research is borne by the industry, with the remaining 2/3 being divided between Embrapii and the Embrapii unit chosen by the company, which provides the service of development to innovation”, he says Gordon. Considers that the partnership is a way to motivate and encourage Brazilian industries to innovate.

Created eight years ago and with only 25 employees, Embrapii has 34 units spread across the country, 10 of them in São Paulo, from which R$ 430 million in projects have already come out. Today, 160 companies are served. The great advantage for the industries is that the negotiation, contracting and execution of projects take place between the company and the Embrapii unit, which has resources for immediate availability. Embrapii monitors the goals and finances of its units' projects on a monthly basis, in addition to a biannual inspection for technical and financial verification, as well as project accounting. An assessment is made every year.
