Fiat Chrysler expands investment in automotive intelligence in Brazil and opens R&D Center in Pernambuco

 

FCA - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles elected Brazil to install its newest Research, Development, Innovation and Automotive Engineering Center. The Center is installed in Pernambuco, and the first of the four units that will integrate this automotive intelligence complex, was inaugurated, on December 2nd, in the city of Recife (PE). This is the Software Center, dedicated exclusively to the design and development of automotive software for engine and transmission control (powertrain). This is the first FCA unit focused on software development in Latin America.

“This Center will be a landmark in the location of automotive intelligence production in Brazil, creating new systems and solutions for automobiles produced by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles worldwide. Pernambuco will contribute to the development of our group in Latin America and, at the same time, it will become a world-class center in the area of automotive engineering and mobility ”, highlights Stefan Ketter, president of FCA for Latin America.
 

The Software Center will develop programs that will provide greater energy efficiency, reduced fuel consumption and gas emissions, in addition to greater driveability, improving the performance of the engine-transmission assembly and improving the response to commands executed by the driver.
 

“In recent years, vehicles have become intensive in the use of electronic and digital systems. Cars are increasingly equipped with command control centers, which control fuel flow, transmission rate, combustion rate and gas emissions, determine consumption, control performance and how quickly the vehicle responds to the driver's commands. Each of these functions is performed by complex software, whose development becomes a key element in the development of industry products. Hence the relevance of the Software Center that we are opening. It is the first center with this specialization that we installed in Latin America ”, highlights Egon Daxbacher, Manager of Implementation of the Center for Research, Development, Innovation and Automotive Engineering at FCA in Pernambuco.
 

Located on Rua do Apolo, in the heart of Porto Digital, in the neighborhood of Recife, the Software Center occupies a property that once housed a sugar warehouse to be exported through the Port of Recife and was restored to receive the new occupants, who represent a new economic cycle for Pernambuco and an advance of the creative economy in Brazil.
